The larger guitar pic was loaded onto the server on Monday, then today, after not touching it, the
bigpond host has shrunk the picture.

The manage attachments thing shrinks em to thumbnail size prior
to displaying them.

Because there's too many people in the supply chain, and the government wants a piece of the action every time parts change hands. And because your LBS is run by greedy bastids. Also, there's enough fools out there paying LBS prices.

Confession: I once bought something at my LBS. Rim tape, which is generally about U$.99, was AU$16 for two rims worth. I then went home and ordered two 60 yard rolls at exactly the same price from overseas. Works out to 1/40 the AU price. But don't even get me started.

Hey, who you callin fool? I buy bits and bobs from my LBS, and I don't mind at all. I need him to hang around so he can fix my bike whenever summint goes wrong wif it. Yeah I could buy Zinn and a whole bunch of tools, but why bother? LBS is just down the road.

I think everyone should attempt to maintain a good relationship with their LBS, because sometimes it's just easier to go in there and get robbed a little, rather than order online and wait. But that doesn't mean I'll accept the markup they put on parts, or the ridiculous labour charges, or the fact that you have to book in a week in advance for the simplest things. I have all the tools I need at home for anything my bikes need. There's very little in the way of repair or maintenance that can't be done at home.

...but you have to have the will to fix things. I don't. I have barely enough will power to walk the 200m down the street to the LBS :D But at the end of the day I get to look at all the pretty bikes I can't afford.

Did I read right? Was that over $4k for a single speed? No way! And it's steel, right? The only frame material that requires paint. Have you found a source for double butted bamboo yet?

It's a total grin machine the ol' proto boinger. I'd love to bolt some modern shocks to it though - the ol' Z1 X-Fly and Float are a bit dated. Amazing how things can improve in 2-3 years.

And yes Exy, you read that right. Steel. 21.5lbs....and it's not even a light frame ( Columbus Zona, XL size ). I started off like everyone else with a cobbled together singlespeed, but 6 years later this is what happened.

What can I say? It's a disease. I know you can all relate, so don't pretend :p
