Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I wave. Even to stoners on MTBs. Hmmmm...does that belong in the confession thread?

With all the things to worry about during a ride, like "am I gonna get hit by a car today?" and the OP worries about two guys not waving back at him. Lawd!

I really want to see a pic of this. It sounds like a body bag.

Nope and therein lies the rub....people riding with a chip on their shoulder. It is amazing that they don't tip over and fall from the sheer weight of the chip.

At this point I was perhaps 10 feet from them. They both looked at me (almost in unison) and then looked away without so much as a nod. I actually rode away pissed. They're that effing cool? What gives? The only thing I can think is they looked at me and said to themselves "This guy is not a serious cyclist, we're not even going to acknowledge him."
Are you really that touchy and sensitive? Are you like that when you're not on the bicycle too?

This year, I'm going to just get it over with, and say **** You to every cyclist passing the other way. Then we'll all have a good laugh.

I was yesterday, but now I am better. Since yesterday I have learned a lot about myself thanks to this forum. Now I can start working on being something better... if not for myself, maybe just so I don't give all cyclists a bad name.

I know in various circumstances- not just riding- if a stranger says something to me, by the time I ascertain if they were talking to me; and think of how to acknowledge them...they are long gone. Never mind that I'm in my own world half the time, and wouldn't even notice if someone waved, because I generally pay attention to what I'm doing, and don't normally look at people unless I have a reason to. I'm sure lots of people think I'm a little stuck-up A-hole...but nothing could be further from the truth- I'm not all that little....

Those guys could be agonizing over not having reacted with a greeting fast enough because they were taken by surprise...or maybe they're just jerks.....either way, OP, you come out looking like the better guy.

Yeah... I think this is pretty much done.

OP, don't worry about it, some people are friendly, some are not. It doesn't have much bearing on you, personally. Just ride.
