Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Probably $100,000 to be comfortable. You could get away with $50,000 to $60,000, but rent would take a fair slice of that, depending on where you lived.Job-home locations would be important so you can link the two with public transport (trains or trams).

A very good friend of mine owns a shop in Hervey Bay. Perhaps if I put in a good word, you could try your hand at customer service, and be a service adviser.

If you've raced bikes, you know your stuff. Be aware that you and your employer have been doing sell jobs on each other, and that things might not necessarily be as bright and happy as you hope it to be. You will make mistakes and feel like a real idiot. Learn, and take advice, and if there are sarcastic comments, let them slide over.

It might not be a fortune, or even near your previous earnings. But right now, it's a darned sight better than what you've had in the past couple of months.

Good luck with it, truckstop. Stay positive and determined and it will work for you.
Nice. No truer words. You're alright Rowan, I don't care what the others say about you.

It's slang for an English person. There is conjecture that it's a bastardised acronym for Prisoner of Her Majesty's Service, and relates to our convict days. But acronyms were not really common back then, and the more favoured explanation is that it is a shortened form of pomegranate, which sort of rhymes with immigrant... hence the rhyming slang in the mid-20th Century for an English person immigrating to Australia (the 10-quid Brits who came out on cruise ships).

I'm glad you got the pun. I've been using that jest since high school, so it's past time I used it here.

Nice, LAJ. I see they have no interest in the picture-taker, both are riveted on the other person.

See, photographers get no respect.

Q: With those large snouts is their sense of smell exceptionally acute?

No doubt, Billy. Not sure how Mrs. LAJ pulled it off. I think she had her phone to left of her, and got real lucky, though I tend to believe she's pretty good.

As far as smell, it is good, but likely no better than others. When I walk them, the second dog I walk will follow the path of the first dog nearly exactly, with nose to the ground. It's even better in the snow, as I can see where the dog that got to go around the block first walked. That said, they can have breathing issues. Their nose doesn't really protrude out of their snout, and I think that may wad up their nasal passages a bit. When Georgia-Mae gets good pets, her eyes get heavy, then her head, and she almost relaxes to the point her breathing gets somewhat labored through her nose. Only at that time do I notice it. That said, when I see a dog with an abnormal (normal to other dog lovers) nose, I think it looks weird.

...first decent length ride in three weeks today. I've been dogassed sick.

The cliff swallows have returned to nest under the various bridges along the river,
and I even spotted a Western Bluebird, which species seems to be making a comeback
locally after many years in decline. It was like riding in a Disney animated feature.
