Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What size crankarm did you need for the 5800?

So he doesn't like it. Dont see why anyone needs clarification on that. Its a stock bike with an off the sales floor set up. Not hot. If you like it, then say so.

Oh wait....you already did.

So, I think Specialized set up a hot stock bike for the sales floor.

I ask because I have 5800 172.5's to list. Actually have Fulcrums too, but 5's rather than Quattro's.

Saddle leather could be nice, as would anything that looks less like a pillow.
Are the reflectors necessary? I'm also wondering about the guard on the chainring. Didn't care for it at first, but if this isn't supposed to be a fast bike, it's kind of nice. Add some fenders.

Still - that's pretty impressive for a nearly stock bike to get a few 'hot' votes on here. My vote: not quite there, but a great start that is pretty darn close.

Angular cages on a round tube bike don't work for me.

It's also got a bag hanging off the saddle, though I suppose you need something to carry the the lawyers looking for someone else to sue.

Speed sensors on the front fork annoy me.

It has promise.

I ditched the reflectors. I have some red and white glass bead reflective tape. A couple of small pieces inconspicuously placed on the seat stays are a good replacement. The pedals have reflectors too so I'm legal.

The guard on the chainring is integrated. I'd have to replace it so I'll leave it. I don't mind the look of anyway.

Thanks for the input, once I get a saddle, post, and whatever else I decide to do I'll post an updated pic and we can start over.

Usually the case. It's really slow when I'm on it though. Not entirely sure what's wrong with it. Maybe throwing more money at it will help?

Thanks

I kinda like it, too. Very flashy kinda hot. But you ride around on it cross-chained like that? You oughta be ashamed!

It's not technically cross chained since I have one more cog to go. But to be honest, I had just gotten done adjusting the front dr and lubing the chain so I was just going through the gears. I'll take the "kinda hot" you're giving it. Thanks.

It was so fastidiously staged, I had to find SOMETHING to nit-pick. Well, I could have mentioned the magnet. Shoulda moved it to a spoke next to the valve stem, so that could have been hidden, too.

I'm just going to go straight to HOT. Normally I'd call it a little busy, but the colors are balanced enough I guess.

This was for Sevenmag's question re leather vs black saddle.

I think either. Although rules suggest that leather might necessitate skinwall tires and natural rubber hoods.
