Wearing it backward would not be more aero, as your cross section is the same either way. But it would be more stupid looking by a factor of π. And who doesn't like π. Just wear your cap facing forward, as Abner intended.
Going gangster, with it raked to the side, would be less aero than forward or back, but less stupid looking. Raked to the side, fellow MUP users could view you and think, "A bird must have struck that poor boy in the head, and knocked his hat askew. I hope he is all right.". Then they wander off to find the bird.

Helmets on bike paths are stupid. Like blinky lights during the daytime. Let the anxiety go and feel the wind in your hair!

Baseball caps worn front facing don't work so well in the drops, you can't see signs or traffic signals, so it's either cocked jauntily to one side or worn backwards as the OP suggests.
I 2nd the cycling cap idea if you can't be convinced to wear a helmet (honestly I only wear helmets on longer recreational rides with a group). It carries a certain penache if worn correctly.

A crusty old Marine told me... A hat is a tool. It is to protected you from the sun and keep to keep the sun out of your eyes. It is not a fashion item, a purse is a fashion item. You dont see wearing my kevlar helmet into a restaurant or using a hammer to drive a screw.

I am 49 years old. I have a 47 year old brother who is gay. He informed me that back in the 80's gay men wore their baseball caps backwards as a way to announce their availability to other gay men in a crowd. It's funny how most of male fashion trends and styles start out in the gay community.

what about the fad for wearing pants low as to expose the underwear. (hint: it's not so that you can look like a gnome as you run from the popo)

Vain, But Lacking Talent
Oh man, this is almost too good to be true.
But yeah:
1) If you think helmets and cycling caps are dorky, you might not belong in the roadie forum.
2) Why are you suddenly all worried about aerodynamics when you aren't doing "extreme" speeds?
3) There's a nice hybrid forum.
But in all seriousness, we're laughing at you, but we also don't really care. Do what you want. For what it's worth, I don't bother with a helmet if I'm cruising around with the family on a closed trail. But I'm also aware that it doesn't take much for a serious head injury. In fact, I had a good friend who was on a paved trail, rabbit jumped out, she hit the rabbit, massive impact on her helmeted head and STILL had a concussion. Oh and no, she wasn't doing "extreme" speeds.
