If you're so worried about what riding is going to do to your hair, pick yourself up one of these.

Baseball cap is my preferred headgear to ride in, though I also rock a helmet and/or cycling cap or neither, more often. Backwards offers sun protection on the back of the neck and some aerodynamics/ventilation up front. It really is comfortable and practical when riding with the sun setting behind you.
I don't pay attention to other riders' helmets- brands or styles- why should a hat matter? The road cyclists that give me a hard time for my not wearing a helmet are the same ones that I scold for not using lights where conditions call for them.

I am 49 years old. I have a 47 year old brother who is gay. He informed me that back in the 80's gay men wore their baseball caps backwards as a way to announce their availability to other gay men in a crowd. It's funny how most of male fashion trends and styles start out in the gay community.

Hi, I bike a lot on a paved bike path just down the street from me. I don't like to wear a helmet due to being uncomfortable, bulky and unsightly(IMO) and I don't want my hair being windblown into an Einstein look so I thought a backwards baseball cap would be a good idea to hold hair and maintain some aerodynamics while looking sporty at the same time. Will I get mocked and laughed at, what is your thought on the matter, any one else do the same?

Will you get mocked and laughed at for wearing a baseball cap backwards while riding on a MUP? No (partly b/c the "cool kids" stay clear of those, and partly b/c nobody cares). Will you get mocked and laughed at for asking the internet if something is not cool? Every time.
I often wear a baseball cap in everyday life. I wouldn't wear a baseball cap on a serious ride, but if I'm putzing around town on my bike and have a baseball cap on, I will often turn it around so it doesn't blow off. It's the only time I will wear a baseball cap backwards.
Einstein is HOT.

Surely you're not saying this just because he chooses not to wear a helmet?
As to the question at hand. Back in the 70s before the Great Helmet Scare suddenly made bicycling a dangerous passtime, we either rode in cycling caps which don't fly off, or if we were wearing ball caps, of course, we'd turn them around backwards so they wouldn't fly off.
That's before cyclists started dropping like flies and we all realized how unacceptably dangerous bicycling is and that only Complete Idiots and Darwin Award aspirants would ride without helmets (and from the looks of it these days, the almost mandatory Safety Vest in optic colors) (I'm being sarcastic for the sarcasm-impaired)

If he is cycling. The stuff works. Which brings out another stereotype. A lot of gay men are into bodybuilding, muscle shirts, etc. He is about 6'1" 220 with huge arms, neck, etc.
If you are going to wear a cap backwards and a Van **** goatee, just don't have any kind of handkerchief sticking out of one of your back pockets. That's all I'm going to say.
