Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Going to take my Fuji and show it around my hometown tomorrow while the wife is working. I've plotted out a 25 mile route that takes me up 5 category 4 climbs. Should be fun!

Never mind, it's only 3 out of the 5 hills that Strava classified as cat 5. The other two are close though...

UPS says bike a accouterments should arrive before COB Monday. Also, I looked at the Big Apples and since I'm currently riding on 2.20 inches and would like to try 2.3, those are too narrow at 2".

There's so many trucks here (major east/west + north/south thoroughfares) that I think I'd be sucked into the tractor-trailer vortex if I tried to ride along the interstate.

The U.S. TT championships were held along an interstate sometime back in the 80s and the times were greatly enhanced.

28 miles yesterday. Today will be my first day off opiates since August 6th, I'm about to ride. Don't feel all that bad yet; even though I tapered down (only took two pills in the last 30+ hours) some withdrawal is inevitable. I've had a lot of surgeries, been through this many times. Hopefully I'll feel normal by Monday/Tuesday. The ride helps blow all that crap out. Found a guy to go 12 mph with on the bike path, meeting him soon.

This week it was Tuesday 10 miles, Wed. 17 miles, Thurs. off, Fri, 17 miles, Saturday 28 miles. Today I'll go about 20. Knee looks and feels considerably better, flexibility and strength seem to be improving, the pain is mostly gone, and it responds to regular Tylenol now. That venous stasis condition (circulation issue) in my right leg has been more painful than the knee itself for the past couple of weeks, but that's clearing up as well, my vascular surgeon saw me a week ago and he said the cycling would really help, and it's already gotten much better.

I did my local group ride today, first time since Labor Day. I am glad that I rode short rides every day through the week, 'cause I would have gotten thrashed going in cold. As it was, it became just a light pasting.

Then I got to dispose of all the carry over paint remainders from 20 years of homeownership. I ran out of cat litter, so I resorted to lawn clippings. I almost liked the dry grass better, until my arms broke out in a rash. Stupid grass.

In other news, the wife and I have introduced "date night" to the routine (with apparently much different rituals than "sex night"), and we went and saw " This is where I Leave You". It gets a RollCNY high recommendation.

...does "it" refer to date night, the wife, or the movie in the above sentence, please ?

Not sure how things are done on the Right Coast but on the Left referring to your wife as "it" is bad form. #youdknowbetterthanme

...well calling her "the wife" does not always get the warmest of receptions. I figured I'd just run with it.
