Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

one more thing to say to Buny.

Apart from the great race result, how the hell did you type all that on a phone with no typos? The kid's got talent.

And what exactly is an MUP racer? I shudder to think about it.

He runs a compact and normal cassette. But "junior" rules don't allow any cog smaller than 14. So he has to block out the 13, 12, 11. If he used the 13 with the 50 front, that would still be higher than a 53/14, so it is not allowed. Some of this is guessing on my part regarding the details, but that is the general idea, so-called junior gearing.

talking about excessively large communications implements, I realised today my newish phone is way too big for cycling. I used to have 3 places to put my phone:1) on a topeak stem mount, 2) saddle bag, 3) back pocket, 4) those dumbass arm bands that runners use to hold their phones.

Today I decided not to wear the cycling jersey (ok, they were all dirty because i got lazy with the laundry) so the back pocket option was out. I found that the new bigger phones do not fit any of the standard containers.

Hey @3alarmer, was talking to a firefighter on the cruise. He said they had to run up and down 10 flights of stairs in something like 90 seconds. Then do a bunch of other stuff- sit ups, push ups, run, swim some kind of manly distance while wearing boots. Did you have to do that stuff?

I often ride with cargo shorts so I could take an iPad with if I wanted to.

There are some nice jerseys on sale for $20 but they only have one pocket. I dunno if i could live with only one pocket.
