I prefer the avids myself. And as far as I know, so do most others. Way easier to adjust and just feel nicer and more powerful.

I would go with the Marlin myself if they both fit well.

Disc brakes have a much softer feel than v brakes. That is one of their advantages. The brakes are modulated and not simply on or off like v's.
