Honestly, I would probably do fine with a Civic si. The CTR is certainly a step up but might be wasted on a geezer like me.

So wife is tired of having to get the kids ready for school by herself. I told her I was tired of riding in the dark. She said you can ride in the afternoon. Not ideal but I will take it. Picked Amelia up from school come home start kiting up. She says what are you doing. I said going for a ride, she goes absolutely not. Not when I have both kids. SMH. Back to riding in the dark.
Or you could tell her what my MIL told my wife early on: "One day you'll be glad he's gone for 5 hours playing golf/riding/whatever."

Oh, I fully expect to be around for another 30-35 years. But I also drive like a middle-aged man so the marginal performance benefit of the CTR over the si is probably not worth the high cost. Kinda like getting a bike with Ultegra instead of Dura-Ace. Good enough is good enough.

Tomorrow is a big day for the Saturn. It goes in for its annual inspection. I am hopeful it will not have any issues, but any costly repairs may cause mrs datlas to veto keeping it alive and we may have to take it out back and shoot it.
We have until the end of the year even if it does not pass, but she wants to know asap what the future holds.
Stay tuned.

Looks like they parked a car in a Hopper painting, except it needs an alienated guy sitting on the porch, smoking a cigarette and staring into the middle distance despondently.

Good idea, and it could get there on just 80 gallons of 87 octane.

I know "nobody walks in LA" but when we were there we did not use a car at all. We mostly walked and used the bus/light rail. It's fine unless you are in a hurry. And the drivers are VERY considerate to pedestrians.
Heidi lives a 20 minute walk from USC campus. But she is trying to get an internship at Warner Brothers and this would be three bus trips, which would be a huge time sink for her. I am not sure we want to buy her a car long-distance especially if she only needs it for 3-4 months. We still don't know her plans for after graduation, if we knew she would be staying in LA and getting a real income, we would be more willing to help her buy a used car.
