Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I got into some lacquer thinner yesterday while recaulking the tub. Accidentally ******d my hands with it upon opening the brand new can just from squeezing it a bit while popping the cap.

This morning I noticed I missed a spot. Caulk around the soap holder dealybob is failing a bit so today I'll be cutting that out and pumping in some fresh stuff.

Maybe, but he was suggesting it for abshipp, who is considering a $900 steel frameset.

It rained here a little early this morning and when I got up I could see snow on the hill behind the houses. We are about 1200 feet and it didn't snow here but it looks to be down to 2000 feet, as some predicted. Low clouds have blocked my view but it probably won't stick for long. Pretty rare event, though, and more might be coming.

My guess is about 2000', too. From what I understand, it's going to colder and wetter on Friday and Saturday. Our house is at 1300'.

Not much good for stuff now that they've taken the lead out and cleaned it up.

Once upon a time, I used to drain the oil from my car into the bar ditch at my grandfather's place when changing the oil. Times they are a changing.

I plan to stick with the Habanero for now, it’s only 13 years old and only has about 75k miles on it, so it’s barely middle aged in Saturn years.
I can fit fine on a standard frame but my stem and seatpost size choices end up being outside the norm

If you tweak these a little bit, you can get by.

But if you have to make drastic changes, you may compromise how the bike handles.

For example, if I got a 61cm cannondale, it would fit me ok with a 40mm stem, and my weight would not be properly distributed over the bike and the front end would act funny/unstable.

That chrome bike of yours does look really cool, if I recall. It’s been so long since you showed it.

Sorry to inform that without a printer here, I'll have to use a boarding pass on my phone tomorrow.

Unless I get one printed at the airport, which I suppose I can.

Lock your screen and have that up before you get to the ticket counter and I might just let you on.

But, it's starting over with an additional $110k!

You watch too many TV ads. Closest thing I have to a plane is my car. And, that's not very close.

Back at the end of WWII, the Army released a Technical Manual, TM9-1575, all about the various wrist and pocket watches issued to soldiers, and how to take care of them, including substitute cleaning fluids if you can't get the official ones. The wash involved water, ammonia, and Castile soap. The rinse? Gasoline.

Professional watch cleaning fluids for decades have been based on Mineral Spirits, aka Stoddard's Solvent, with various additives. The wash solution usually has some form of ammonia in it (brightens up the plates). A lot of hobbyists just use Naphtha, aka Ronsonol, which is shorter chain hydrocarbons so it's more volatile and evaporates faster.
