Please tell this nice seller that it is difficult to become interested in a bike when you can't see the whole thing in any of the photos.

I suppose folks think they're being cute or artsy when they only show images of a few enticing details, but it just causes me to go on to the next ad.

Also when they post their own bikes in this thread.

Here is a nice but tall '01ish Alfana. looks very clean and $200 doesnt seem bad for a Prestige frame and clean 105 group.

Take the last train to Clarksville for this '89 Volpe for only $150!!!

https://nashville.craigslist.org/bik/6210367042.html

I think this Italian Red '88 Giro with Victory is a 63 not a 60 but it looks nice aside from the fork. The catalog shows a painted fork so I don't know if it is a replacement or just had the paint stripped (maybe I don't know if these were chromed)

Just serviced? Looking at the rear derailleur cable, I'm thinking it'll need a re-service immediately. Good components though.

I thought SIS stood for Shimano Indexed Shifting, but the downtube shifters suggest that I was mistaken.

It did originally, but has been used with friction downtube shifters as well.

SIS does stand for Shimano Index Shifting. Those are indexed downtube shifters, which also have a friction setting.

I vaguely remember something to that effect. Either index or friction, that is.

Interesting. I'd love to try them. I have indexed brifters on one bike. They work fine, but I still don't understand why the world seems to have settled on them; friction shifters work just as well for me.

With your hands on the hoods, you can both shift and brake without changing hand position. At first, this revolutionized racing, because you could do both coming out of a turn at speed, for ex., instead of having to plan your exit gear far in advance. But then it caught on with consumers, simply for the convenience factor if nothing else.

I really think that bike prices are on the brink of collapse. I was watching the Litespeed titanium bike that sold for $500 shipped and I bought the Merckx for $465 shipped and seller waived the $15 shipping.

I agree and I've mentioned this to a few already people this year. Something happened in November/December. Prices of complete bikes dropped significantly, bikes priced at what I'd consider "great" value are sitting for weeks on CL and eBay alike. Hell, I normally pass my savings along when I get good deals to quick-flip and these last few bikes have sat on CL with some bargain-basement prices for a month or more with 2-3 ad bumps per week.

OTOH, seems prices on Campy and Zeus components on eBay in particular have apparently gone up easily 50-100% in the last 12-24 months alone. Used to be you could walk out the door with a complete 70s/80s NR/SR crankset for $30-$40 once or twice a week if you kept your eyes peeled. I've been fighting just to find some damn SR rings for less than $10-15/ea. I've scored a sub-$40 shipped NR crankset or two in average to good condition these last couple of months and even an entire near-new Victory drivetrain this month for a little over $30, but the choices and options are few and far between, you really need to be on top of your game and scour.

It's at the point now I'm really digging in the bins to find hard to find odds and ends so I can string together funds for projects.

That $465 Merckx was an incredible deal. It's a professional, SL.

Ebay overall has not been great. I have heard that quite a bit from people that sell non bike related material.
Unless it's rare, and in demand it sits.

I agree also. Wow, that Merckx for $465! You could put those Zonda wheels right back up on eBay and sell them easy for $200-250.

As Francophile noted - I've seen the converse rise in value of the Campy parts. A year or so ago, FMV on a good condition Super Record RD was about $65, now seems to be up around $80 and higher.
