recommend some cranks for me

im looking for gloss black cranks. the 75s are a bit out of range, so i was looking at the RD's and was wondering if:

a. they are garbage or

b. you have any other recommendations for not crappy 130 bcd 1/8 cranks (144bcd if you have a really good, yet affordable recommendation)

crank*set* recommendations accepted since i want a 46t chainring to replace my 44t.

i think i have a square taper BB if i recall. its whatever came stock on the kilo tt.

disclaimer: i dont care if you think my frame/bike sucks, it was my first fixed and it was the most sensible purchase for reasons i dont care or need to explain to you.

now, go forth and discuss.

Check out the SRAM courier crank on benscycle. I'm pretty sure it's gloss black

Rd's are garbage. Basically a converted double, with ******** chainline on a 103mm bb. You can try and pickup an IRO crank 130 bcd which also comes in black. They're heavy, but it'll be the same price range, although it does say IRO in giant white letters on the crank though.

Whichever crank you get you will need a bottom bracket that has a properly proportioned spindle, or bottom bracket axle, to match the amount of "dish" in the crank, so that the crank and the sprocket operate on the same plane/chainline.

If you don't have a bottom bracket with a 103mm spindle, you will need to get one.

$35 at eBike:

https://www.ebikestop.com/sugino_103m...dle-CR8858.php

I rode with a sugino RD crank for about a year.

It works great, and, apart from cosmetics, it'll do a good job for you.

Stronglight has in the past made a 130mm BCD crank, and I have one.

Light, stiff, nice-looking.

I wish Stronglight would make this crank again.

John Dace at www.businesscycles.com sold them for about $120 without a chainring.

You might find one used, if you look long enough.

I had mine powdercoated black.

I just took a look at that IRO crank, and for $90 it seems like a nice option.

I have a black Pake crank which is nice. Also, on Benscycle.com there is a 144 bcd Andel crank for 100 that looks really nice. Also, there is a SRAM crank w/ BB for 100 bucks. All of those are good options. I don't know what spindle length comes stock on the TT, but you might not need a new one. Just do some research and everybody will tell you what size spindle is recommended for the crank.

I don't think kilos have ever shipped with square taper BBs, but I could be wrong.

IRO cranks = alien cranks = andel cranks = bens cranks = kazane cranks
they're all the same but with different (or no) branding.

that's your best bet.
comes in black
inexpensive
better than RDs
good for streets

Zip, was that sarcasm?
That's the only bb I've ever seen them with.
What's yours got?

+1 on the pake cranks.
They're a good crank/chainring combo for under $70.

I wasn't being sarcastic -- I've only seen Kilos with power spline BBs actually (for stock Truativ Touro cranks). I got my Kilo last June, and it has a power spline BB. Though, it could be that the 2007 and earlier shipped differently.

Another vote for the sram courier cranks with the GXP external bottom bracket. It comes in black and is probably the stiffest choice for a crankset around $100.

Another +1 on the Pake crank. Make sure they're properly tightened, and they're a good crank for $60.

omniums aren't black, and OP doesn't want to buy overpriced cranks. please read.

sram s300 courier cranks are black and use the same outboard gxp bearings as omniums.
they're a good crankset, and can be had (crank + outboard bb + chainring) for $100.
black, shiny, light, stiff, smooth, sealed, durable, hot.

do it.

https://www.benscycle.net/index.php?m...oducts_id=7500

ed: they come with a 48 ring though. dunno if that's a problem. my 5'6" 130 lbs girlfriend blasts around on 48x16, so i really don't wanna hear any whining.

how do i figure out which i have?

lol, ok. any other votes for the messenger cranks?

awesome.

and spooki, i forgot to click multi quote on your post, but thank you, that was a great response.

i guess my problem is that the BB is on the short list of things i have yet to learn about on the my bike. i dont really know anything about them, actually. so heres some follow up questions...

do any of these options allow me to keep my current BB? (or should i just put it in the "polo bike parts" pile)

i would like to keep my money rather than have to buy a 48t CR that i dont want/need. so can i get just the cranks and BB (if necessary) in a "package deal" type situation without the CR? the only way i would get another CR is if i jumped to a 144bcd, and it would HAVE to be a 46t, or else im just wasting my money.

thank you guys for your help. lost without you. haha

oh yea, spooki, 5'6'' 130lbs? and blasting around town on a FG?

haha jk

I don't necessarily consider the Omniums overpriced at around $180-200 bucks if you consider the courier at $110,a decent price for that crankset, comes with a pretty cheap ring. Add another $80-$100 bucks for a ring of similar quality to the Omnium ring and your roughly at the same price as buying an Omnium from the start.

And the Omnium comes in black, the're just hard to find.

not trying to pay that much. if thats any help. id like to keep the entire thing around 100, or a bit more if i jump to the 46t 144 bcd since i realize ill have to buy a corresponding CR.

also, i have a connect, so any parts out of QBP or J&B would be preferred.
