I use mine mainly for road fixed.
I have a bout 1.5cm of clearance between the tyre and the brake bridge with Continental 4Seasons in 28's.
I have about double that on my Giant TCX running knobby 32's.

Is that with the rear wheel at the front of the dropout?

Hey all. Longtime lurker and new member. I've been riding fixed for a few years now and thought I'd post a couple of my bikes.

Pictures are from earlier in the year and both bikes have changed a little bit. I'm hoping to add a few more goodies after the holidays. This site has been a great resource! Thanks!

Winter mode commuter engaged. LIT tires are definitely lit.

I like a lot of slack in my chain. But you are winning.

Ha, yeah I already tensioned it a bit more as soon as I got home from that ride. But, not too much more :D

I wish I could see one in person. I can squeeze that much (or more) clearance out of my Steamroller with 33's.

^ Weirdest handlebar setup I've ever seen.

For some reason, unbeknownst to me, some people like to install the Chris King stuff upside down. I don't know if they think it looks cute or funny or what. To me, it looks like you seriously effed it up and didn't bother to pay attention when installing/building. It looks as rookie as not lining up the tires on the wheels when you put them on. Just not my cup of tea.

SquidPuppet 12-21-16 05:53 PM

Ouch

seau grateau 12-21-16 05:55 PM

So you can look down and read it while you're riding.

motrheadsroadie 12-21-16 06:00 PM

upside down king headset cups are supposed to tell someone in the know that you were either given the headset as a gift or bought it used.

i traded my parts-bin-built CK headset to a buddy for this (used) pink one. my biggest reason to install the cups upside down is that it drives people crazy.

is there anything you DO like besides black tires? not trying to be a dick, but you seem boring as ****.

johnnytheboy 12-21-16 06:31 PM

this is great. the exact reason i posted a closeup of just the headset instead of the entire bike.

A friend of mine from the east coast installed his like that on his CX bike because he said that bike spends more time upside-down than on its wheels.

johnnytheboy 12-21-16 06:53 PM

it looks right side up to me when i'm riding it...
