New Drivetrain for the Kilo...
Gonna treat myself to some new parts for the Kilo. I have a wheelset picked out from Retro and I really need to upgrade my crankset as well. I read a lot about the SRAM Ominiums, so I am leaning that direction. So which BB will I need to go with that? I wanna do this right the first time...

I've been using the "garbage" BB that came with mine for almost 2 years with no issue, so you might want to give it a shot before throwing money at it.

The BB's supplied with omniums since the launch of the all-black pair are actually much better than the ones that were supplied with the first omniums back when they only came in one color (silver)/ had truvativ (instead of sram) decaling.
I remember distinctly that the bunk gxp bb's coming with them had a transparent sleeve while the better bb's had a black sleeve instead.
When my red blackbox ceramic gxp grenaded itself on a climb on the roadie, I ended up "temporarily" replacing it with a one parted from a new set of omniums while my chris king replacement came in.
What was supposed to be just a week turned into 4 weeks after my CK bb color got backordered and subsequently LBS staff forgetting to call me about it arriving. That was early last year and nearly 3500+ miles later, the same BB is still going strong without any maintenance while the CK that was supposed to replace it is sitting on the shelf.

The two versions you're describing are literally the same bottom bracket with slightly re-designed aesthetics. Some people have luck with them, others don't.

Perhaps but it is always plausible that sram changed other factors of production for their stock bb's besides cosmetics/ appearance, such as materials to workmanship, which would help increase the number of people who have better luck.
The reason I even had that stock omnium bb in my parts bin to scavenge for my roadie was because I had bad luck with my first gxp bb which just so happened to have provided the opposite experience of what I am currently experiencing. I was surprised enough to share my experiences here.

The Omnium is a great crankset but including a budget BB is how Sram keeps the price below $300.
