Just finished this one last night. I'm kinda sad to see it go to the show/for sale before I could sit in it more...

But hopefully it sells. The last thing I need is another big, heavy, possession to ship to the west coast when I graduate.

made from:
-popped bike tubes from the local bike co-op (don't worry, no holes/patched sections were used)
-found office chair seat base
-found desk drawer
-spare hardware (nuts/bolts/screws) from the supply closet in our woodshop

managed to spend a grand total of nothing on this chair. and i'm kinda sad to see it go.

I paint portraits of my pushies. Gotta say, this thread is, for me, one of the most vital I have come across on bikeforums. Thanks Terror.

pushie portraits

Hi jinx4, thanks for the word! These ones are a bit bigger than A3, 500mm wide by about 300mm deep. I use pencils to sketch out and then fill in with gouache, details with silver and gold ink, Indian ink, Rotring tech pens, Sharpie and a bit of collage. the fish eye is a bit accidental, I just start sketching details that I dig about each bike, the lugs, headset, get all freestyle with the handlebars, finish the frame, spend a while on the drivetrain, then try to make the wheels fit into what space is left. I struggle with trying to be all technical and tight, while trying to be free and loose at the same time. Bit like riding in traffic (Sydney). These have all been project bikes and started off as something to do when I'm waiting for parts to arrive via eBay or payday for funds to finish them. It also helps me visualise the final bike and how I want it to turn out. I'm trying to work towards enough pieces (and bikes?) for an exhibition. I'm wanting to do some portraits of some skaters next. I obviously don't get a chance to talk about this stuff much because when I get an opportunity I start rabbiting on. Sorry!

i would assume that fabric stores might have canvas cheaper than art stores. but then again, i know little about painting on canvas.

I'm going to Richmond this weekend and one thing we have planned is to dumpster dive VCU, if I get any extras I could send em your way...since I think that piece is breath taking.

sweet dude. thank you. I actually ended up buying a long piece of scrap from the art store today. about 5 yards long and either 70 to 80" wide. so i'm okay for a few, but i'll need to buy a roll of 100 yards or so eventually.
