FG and Psychedelic Experience

Just curious if anyone has ridden their fixed gear during a psychedelic experience. I noticed something pretty bizzare last weekend... Riding the fixed gear puts you in almost a cosmic rhythm. Everything falls into place, the bike pretty much rides itself, and you stay really calm and mellow. You basically just ride around really slow feeling absolutely content.

When I traded bikes with my freewheel road bike riding friend everything changed. I was really anxious, kept wondering where we were going, couldnt' understand why the fixed gears were riding so slow. It was really strange. There was a marked difference between the feelings you got from the different bikes...

Has anyone else had similar experience?

Heh, I know exactly what you mean. I got into one of those "cosmic rhythms" last monday while riding. It was pretty amazing, just totally spinning on my 48/16t fixie for half an hour without stopping or thinking or anything. I got so into it and zoned out that I ended up laying her down going into a turn at 27 mph. After a nice evening in the ER, I have a broken thumb/wrist and 15 stitches in my chin (it was burger down to the bone). Not to mention road rash all over and the new Cinnelli handlebar tape I put on LAST WEEK was trashed. So I'm out for 4-6 weeks till I get the cast off.

But yeah it was a pretty wild psychedelic experience up to that point. Just don't let yourself get too tripped out, you still represent a whole lot of kinetic energy whether your mind is there or not.

The reason being that the bike sort of takes over the ride--something that doesn't happen on a free wheel. I'm not talking about the way I ride every day, just while my 3rd eye is squeeged. The bike becomes a force all its own in a way you probably cant understand unless you try it out.

But how about some theory to back up the OP? Something about cadances and rhythmic pulse-waves drifting on a synaptic storm while on the road to the hypothalamus.

Nouia, don't freak me out man...I thought your chin was a hamburger, and I want to maintain my mellow visuals, do0de. Woah.

Well, there was this one time that a couple of friends of mine wanted to have a night to themselves, so I offered to babysit their daughter. Around ten o'clock or so, with not a damned thing to watch on TV and nothing else to do, I said the hell with it and dropped a hit of windowpane acid. I was just going to listen to music, but once it kicked in I realized that I just had to take the old fixed gear out for a spin. Quickly I tucked the baby in, put some food in the oven, and ran out with the bike to take a ride.

Big mistake. It started out pleasant enough, but soon I could feel--and I mean, really feel--every little pebble in the road vibrating right through the Deep V's into my spine, through my neck and into my brain. As if that weren't enough, when I turned onto a busy street, I started getting really bad visual hallucinations. The red light at the end of the block turned into dutret, from BFSSFG, lecturing me in a slow distorted voice on why I should be using ergonomic road drops instead of track drops. I could actually hear him droning on and on about how I only think I know why I want track drops, but that really my own desires were too deep-seated for me to understand, and only he could understand, so why didn't I just ditch the track drops for some ergonomic road drops, which are what I really want even though I won't admit to myself that they are what I want, and I don't know why I won't admit it or why I really want them? The red light (dutret's face) kept turning green, then red, then green again while he lectured me. Finally I managed to look down at my watch, and once it stopped melting, I saw to my amazement that it was two o'clock in the morning. I had been trackstanding at the same light, listening to an imaginary lecture on handlebars, for four hours. Jesus, was I ever high.

I rode back to my friends' apartment as quickly as I could, hoping that they hadn't gotten home yet and found the place empty. They weren't there yet, but when I checked the kitchen I realized to my utter horror that I had put the food to bed and put the baby in the oven!!!!!!!!!!!

Fortunately, I had forgotten to turn on the oven. Like I said, I was really high.

Bikes: I built the Bianchi track bike back up today.

Gas or electric oven? Baby probably could have suffered some drain bamage from the lower oxygen of the pilot light in a gas oven...

If I ever do psychotropics again, I'll have to ride and see what the difference between a freewheel and a fixed is. Back when I rode a rigid MTB everywhere (w/ gears!) in MT, I once took off when it was about -10F to ride around town. Ended up running into a herd of deer that had come down from the mountains into the valley to eat people's shrubs because they were easier to get to. I rode with them for several blocks as they foraged. It was weird. The head doe would go out around a building's corner, then cough to signal another doe to make the 10ft crossing. When they made it safely, the head doe would cough again, and they'd repeat the process...

Thankfully, it was just some OK blotter and only 2 hits, so when I got home I had enough thought to run my hands under lukewarm water as soon as I walked in the door. Because they were full of ice. It felt like my hands were slushies inside of rubber gloves.

But the deer were cool. At the time, I was convinced they were my spirit animal, or some ***** like that...

Well it depends what it was. If it was Shrooms, did you feel conected to the bike and everything around it?
If it was salvia dividorum (its legal) what the hell were you doing on a bike? Sounds pretty crazy

I ride fixed after smoking the green stuff all the time. I really love the feel of the wind on my face while riding fast down the street and listening to some crazy high BPM music (Atari Teenage Riot lately). Never tried anything else.
