...and I firmly reject the idea that I owe my "fellow cyclists" anything. Riding a friggin' bike doesn't elect any of us to some mystical brotherhood. As far as I'm concerned, somebody else riding a bike is just that-- somebody on a bike. As far as I know, that is all we have in common, and it doesn't obligate me to defend their idiot actions.
I agree, there's worse sh*t than what's on that vid, but I'm not going to applaud it, or back down when a couple of underage halfwits get upset at my reaction. If you don't understand that I'm not seriously advocating killing those guys, then you need to take a short trip to a dictionary and look up the definition of 'rhetorical irony.' Seriously, get a bloody clue.

Irresponsible cowboys? This sounds so tame compared to the reputation we get here. Really, it's dodging cars all day. The only recourse is to go faster and get away from them. Less chance of someone running you over.

Oh yeah, you're one to throw around the term "self-righteous."
He's actually right about Aggravated A&B, intentionially hitting someone with a car is by definition Aggravated A&B. Criminal law is, in general, pretty humorless.
Is is ridiculously irresponsible what they were doing: yep. Is that pretty much what alleycats are all about? To an extent... the way you're talking I thought it was going to be crazier than it turned out to be (although forcing cars to come to a full-stop isn't all the great in my book).
Do I really think doing what they were doing casts some all cyclists as irresponsible idiots who are taking their and possibly other people's lives in their own irresponsible hands, no.

I didn't think the video was that interesting. I liked the earlier Lucas Brunelle videos better..they had a more raw, amateurish quality to them and were not so cut up with fancy edits. Being able to flow smoothly through traffic is a beautiful thing, but this video only captured chaos, sloppy riding, and stupid daredevilry. I've pulled stunts like that in traffic, but its nothing to admire or celebrate. Its not very wise; nor does it take much skill...you just have to be able to override your common sense momentarily with adrenaline. Sorry Queerpunk, but I really wouldn't feel sorry for anyone who got crushed by a vehicle if they were riding like that.

Yeah, I do. I don't predicate my everyday action in regards to others based on whether I find it "boring" or not. Boredom is a symptom of an uninteresting mind. If you-- with the infinite multiplicity of the universe before you-- can't find something more interesting than dodging traffic to keep entertained by, then you have grave problems.

I just don't understand what part of your brain is so mis-wired that you go "I don't like the way these guys are riding their bikes so much that I want to run them over with a car". There's no irony in a statement like that. Also, there's no such thing as "rhetorical irony", but i'm going to assume you meant "figure of speech". Now stop using your big college student words, because you aren't fooling anyone. You're an ignorant scumbag, and frankly you'd be better off not riding a bike anyway. I'm not gonna waste anymore breath debating with a fool like yourself.
Go ride.
(But don't break any cycling laws or you'll run yourself over, creating a self abusive rift in time)

Secondly, I'm sure that stupid crap like this happens all the time. What turns my gut is the documentation and posting of it...like it's some notable event, and deserves our accolades. It's idiotic horsing around, not some epic athletic competition.

I especially liked how unmonumentous the finish was. Nobody there cheering like at the other checkpoints. The winner just flips out that he won (rightfully so) and some guy standing there like "yeah, that's good..."
And you'd think we could have gotten a little more resolution so you can actually tell what the hell is going on in the splitscreen sections when we have to buffer a file that gigantic.
Other than that - it mostly just makes me wish I could ride my bike in a more exciting city.

I agree on this point, in a sense, but from a differnet perspective. Much of what they were doing wasn't all that disimilar from messengering back in the day (outside of the making the cars stop part, it was more trying to get through traffic as quickly as possible without getting hit). What with the "hotness" of fixed-gears these days I hate to think of a score of inexperienced yahoos trying that and getting themselves all f'd-up.

For me, the Monster Track V and San Fran videos are better in so many ways...but primarily because they are less choppy and portray more speed and smooth flow.

I'm neither frustrated, nor raving.
I've worked my whole life to avoid living in huge metropolitan areas. Maybe this is my problem-- that I don't understand 'city life' or whatever...but in none of the places I've lived (and I've lived all over, even in a couple of reasonably large cities) would I consider riding like that acceptable. If I ever did it, I'd feel like a ******bag.
And...where I grew up, you run in front of a car on your bike, they ain't stopping...and chances are it's a pickup coming down on you. If they do stop, it's likely there's a shotgun hanging on the rack in the cab.
