he'd still clear the road, but just barely. I know we all learn to live with overlap but I'm not sure I've seen a bike with this much

Yikes. I thought those cranks looked a bit long but didn't mention it out of politeness. Combined with the tight clearance and small size of that frame it does look pretty scary when you shop it like that. Surely the BB should be higher than that 0.o

your problem is that you have too many crank arms

br995 12-03-07 10:34 AM

And a really slack chain.

Zombie Carl 12-03-07 10:39 AM

My girlfriend rides a 50cm Kilo TT, and when I first put her on it I thought the toe overlap would kill her, but she's a badass and after about 15 minutes had it figured out.

brett jerk 12-03-07 11:05 AM

i wasn't even thinking specifically about toe overlap. more like, leaning into turns. toe overlap is pretty easy to work around, but not being able to take corners at speed must suck

Here's my winter ice bike. 48x18 gearing.

here is my '05 pista. nothing really cool to point out, it is pretty much all stock. ride it everyday. this weekend was the first time the snow stuck so i havent had time to put my fenders on. i know it is a little fruit loopy but i have the yellow vittorias because the LBS got them on accident and sold them to me for cheap. and top tube pad not for hipster points but because i fear the kids with the department store bikes will mess mine up in the racks at school. and the tape over bianchi to deter theives.

That looks a bit exaggerated. The overlap isn't anymore than usual. My cranks are 165mm, and I clear the ground fine.

I haven't had a hard time with it.

I have yellow tires on my green pista and I think it looks pretty sweet.

how about locking up a wheel it may help deter thieves even more

gehrkead 12-03-07 07:49 PM

i am not too worried considering there are probably 4 or 5 bikes on that rack with quick release fronts that are not locked up. but now that i say that i will go to get my bike to go to class and my wheel will be missing.

Is everything really cooler when done in Times Square? This is the indelible impression that movies have left on me.

I cut and rotated. that's all. I rotated the pedal on it's axis to show where it would sit at the 3 o'clock position.

This is my first conversion, it's a Sekai 2400 frame. 48x16. I've got my winter tires on it now. Picture is a bit dark, sorry. Don't be to harsh.
