Cross-post from Mountain Biking

My Monkey's been outside since I got back to school, and is being ridden. She got all salty so I cleaned her again, only to find a rusty Brooks. I immediately cleaned the Brooks its original sheen, cleaned and put a different saddle on the Monkey: Serfas Stinger RS, titanium rails=no rust. Right?

That's awesome. I love that frame. If I had the money, I would be building a snow bike just like that.

Nah, thats the elusive Russian Fluid Disc out back.
At least he is rocking a helmet though.

Those TT helmets are about as useful as paper-mache, and can't you guys see he's riding clipless?

psha, look at the bend in the sole of his right foot. no clipless shoe is that floppy.

TimArchy 01-23-08 09:42 PM

Skeeter can ride whatever he wants. I love the mid 80's outlawed butt-fairing.

Although, if I do remember correctly, later in the show Skeeter gets going too fast and is unable to stop.

some new photos of my iro, recently made small changes to it. - my seatpost looks real tall in the photos, but it doesn't seem nearly as high in person. might just be the low angles or something.

beethaniel 01-23-08 10:28 PM

is that the flat black iro ive seen on ebay?

NewYorkMantle 01-23-08 10:41 PM

yeah, it's the matte black group buy frame. i got it for cheap at trackstar because they slightly bent one of the fork's dropouts (i'd assume by dropping the frame); no biggie though, a 5 second fix.

i really like this build. I've got the same frame and yours looks great. i like the flat bar, too. i've been doing a riser for a while and this picture makes me wanna go back to my straight bar.

haha, i've never been much of a football fan; baseball has always been my only obsession. over the last couple years i've really started to appreciate football though and i'll probably end up a big giants fan in another couple years, who knows. the superbowl is going to be awesome though.

spacehippo 01-23-08 11:51 PM

NewYork... what length BB are you using with that RD and messenger ring setup?

Just wondering... I never thought my messenger ring would fit on the inside of my RD cranks without hitting the chain stays on my IRO...

Not snobery, it bio-mechanics. Have you had you KOPS checked out? A few millimeters can make all the difference in the world when it comes to knee pain. A lot of people will incorrectly use saddle fore/aft to adjust cockpit length. Saddle fore/aft should be adjusted to get your knee over the pedal spindle at the three o'clock position.

BTW that is a nice looking bike.

Doesn't Sheldon Brown's site have an extensive article claiming that KOPS is not an effective way to adjust your bike to fit?

yeah yeah chain tension i know. I like it a little loose.

Hi, nice build. I'm just finishing mine off and I wondered how you got the decals off. I've managed 2 with a hair dryer so far but man that was hard work and took an hour. Any tips?

littlefoot 01-24-08 07:17 AM

If you know someone with a heatgun, say an electician maybe, or might be able to rent one at a hardware store maybe....try that....gives plenty of heat to remove un clearcoated decals.

That article is Keith Bontrager's, his points are valid. He also begrudgingly admits that for most folks KOPS puts them into a range that agrees with his own fit theories.

I was suggesting to Mr. Shotneys to check out his KOPS relationship because with 10 min of internet research and a buddy his bike could be adjusted effectively. Considering that we haven't seen him on the bike it could be a million other adjustments. KOPS is the first thing that comes to my mind after saddle height when it comes to knee pain.

if you use something flexible, say like an ID card of some kind, you can remove wider bits of the decal with each run.

i managed to get the 'surly' off the downtube in two runs without a heat gun that way.
