Why's that? Mine are thick, sturdy, stong, light... so I don't get it. I admit spending $100 on this stem, no way. But what is wrong in general with quality brand carbon risers?

I_luv_hooters 03-27-08 09:48 AM

That mercier kilo tt looks good with yellow tire(s). I would do them both the same.

well worth being careful with it, but still, you'd be surprised what people throw out.

The surprise usually comes when your face is abruptly introduced to your stem's top cap.

Hey, look into the cane creek solos, too. it's a cool looking reliable headset for less than the CK.

Damn you straws, I need to up my dumpster diving game.

true, but from what i'm told about carbon (i'm not hugely experienced with carbon myself and never had problems when i have used it), if it's damaged, you can see where it's chipped or gouged and you know not to use it, so it ought to be apparent on those bars if they're not good. i think that, not the source, is the real deciding factor in how good the bars are to use.

i'm not a negative nancy, it looks nice, what cranks?

I love izumi chains, but i would throw that master link out and put a full link in, i just feel weird knowing a masterlink could **** up, espcially if you aren't running brakes.

They are Ultegra cranks, I did the build with extra parts I had but I wanted them to match. My brother has a plating business so he said, "what do you think of gold?" I said ok. He is plating the rear caliper gold and when it's done I will put it on the front as it is identical except for the mounting bolt.

I took it out on it's maiden voyage yesterday. 45 miles and it rides smooth but the seat needs to go, it's more like a torture device than a saddle.:o

How did you get a threadless stem working on a threaded fork, or is it some sort of adapter?

This, of course, was all after I had already wrapped the bars. Next project will be to remove this housing and switch the right brake lever to actuate the front brake. Also, the two sides of the bars are wrapped differently, which should be changed. The BB badly needs to be serviced: it makes loud knocking sounds when I'm pedaling. I'm in the process of lacing a Campy Strada rim to an older Shimano 6600 front hub, which will look better than whatever Sun Rims wheel is on there now.

Looks a lot like my girlfriends which I posted some pages back, except she has risers. The bike rides wonderfully.

Soon... like I said it was a budget build.

bonechilling 03-27-08 03:42 PM

You should budget yourself $8 for some tape.

I_luv_hooters 03-27-08 03:44 PM

That bike looks fun to ride. You can go on trails, etc. I have the same frame and my bike looks so different.

bonechilling 03-27-08 03:46 PM

Yeah, I bought the wrong size bottom bracket for mine, so I've got to wait to land another one before I can complete my Rob Roy.

I took it out for a little 45 mile spin yesterday and I didn't miss the tape. I stopped by the shop where I bought the chain and he ordered me some gold Deda tape for it so Next week I will be rolling with tape don't worry.
