Presenting the Sidewalk Bike!
3 Attachment(s)
Yes, a bike I ride the sidewalks with. For the hardcore SS'er with a sense of humor.
|
I've been a mountain biker for about 5 years and just recently got interested in SSing. I'm extremely impressed at how you guys can take older, forgotten parts and make some great bikes.
Awesome! :D |

Posted this on the wrong forum ;-( I think I got carried away by a snow-tire discussion. Try again!
http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread...418#post387418 Commuting on this SS 1984 Raleigh Technium has inspired me to convert another relic to fixed gear. Maybe another Technium? Any ideas? :roflmao: |

They're finally here!!! Pista Pics...
|
are you going to go with the stock 42/16 gears on your AIDs ride??
|
Yeah, I'm doing it with the stock gearing, but that's 48/16
I was going to go to 48/17, but I'm waaaay poor. |
48/16; you're right!
I'm doing what I imagine is a much flatter 500mi than yours and I picked up a 17 "just in case" good luck. us flashy chrome bikers need to stick together jeff |
Garbage picked
http://image.pbase.com/u39/jhazard/u...Raleigh_02.jpg
One day last winter, when riding back from the bank I passed a garbage heap in front of somebody's house (garbage day). I noticed a road wheel poking out the heap, so I investigated. I pulled the wheel out, and noticed a pair of forks, and pulled on them, and the frame was attached, along with the cranks, rear deraileur, seatpost, seat, brakes, and after a little more digging, the rear wheel. I loaded up the frame on my back and shuttled it home. went back, picked up the front wheel too. It's a raleigh, have no idea what year or model. I bought some fat road tires from nashbar, some new bars, put on an old set of mountain bike forks ('originals' were a bit twisted), new cables, toe straps, and threw it together. My very first road bike, althought it's about an inch and half too large. I've since figured out a gear that will work out, and removed the singulator, and now I'm trying to build a fixed wheel. So, if it's a bit goofy, forgive me, just learning the fixed/road stuff out. If the image didn't load, follow the link... http://www.pbase.com/image/25530004 |
And I thought that I rode with the saddle nose down... wow!
|
anyway, sweet ride! |
[QUOTE=hazard]http://image.pbase.com/u39/jhazard/u...Raleigh_02.jpg
One day last winter, when riding back after robbing a bank I passed a garbage heap in front of Halle Berry's house (garbage day). I noticed a vintage Raleigh Technium glistening in the garbage heap, so I investigated ..... http://www.pbase.com/image/25530004 Hazard, amazing! You could successfully market recycled Raleigh Technium frames as "Hazard" SS and fixies on ebay! Speaking of ebay I've just bid on a Raleigh Technium 420 frameset (item no 3665005233). Plan to build a Raleigh fixed gear since I really enjoy commuting on a 1984 Raleigh Technium recently converted to SS. The SS is 38:20 (51.3 gear-inches) The fixie will be 44:20 (59.4 gear-inches) to achieve less spinning and better cranking for some single track in Boulder. Any one have alternative gear-ratio suggestions? Just put Tioga 700x38c Bloodhounds on a tough Marin Sausalito. What an aggressive 700 tread! Effortlessly rolled through greasy snow and over discarded road bikes on my commute this morning. I don't think the Bloodhounds will mate with the Raleigh Heron. So instead I'll use Hutchison Gold Pro cyclocross 700 32c tires that have proven to be sure-footed and agile on the 1984 Technium over Boston's disintegrating cow paths and muddy trails. :roflmao: |

Didn't work for me either. It might be a filter problem at my school. |
They work for me.
|
I checked 'em three times and they're fine at my end, but I'll see what I can do.

Here's the Fixed Gear Gallery page. Thanks Dennis, we are all in your debt.
