Presenting the Sidewalk Bike!

Yes, a bike I ride the sidewalks with. For the hardcore SS'er with a sense of humor.

I've been a mountain biker for about 5 years and just recently got interested in SSing. I'm extremely impressed at how you guys can take older, forgotten parts and make some great bikes.

Awesome!

:D

Randy,

How tall are you? By the looks of your seatpost, you are either riding too small of a frame or you are 9 feet tall. hahahaha

I like the pista though.

Posted this on the wrong forum ;-( I think I got carried away by a snow-tire discussion. Try again!

Commuting on this SS 1984 Raleigh Technium has inspired me to convert another relic to fixed gear. Maybe another Technium? Any ideas?

They're finally here!!! Pista Pics...

auroch 03-07-04 11:22 PM

are you going to go with the stock 42/16 gears on your AIDs ride??

lucklust 03-07-04 11:55 PM

Yeah, I'm doing it with the stock gearing, but that's 48/16
I was going to go to 48/17, but I'm waaaay poor.

auroch 03-08-04 01:07 AM

48/16; you're right!
I'm doing what I imagine is a much flatter 500mi than yours and I picked up a 17 "just in case" good luck. us flashy chrome bikers need to stick together

Garbage picked

http://image.pbase.com/u39/jhazard/u...Raleigh_02.jpg

One day last winter, when riding back from the bank I passed a garbage heap in front of somebody's house (garbage day). I noticed a road wheel poking out the heap, so I investigated. I pulled the wheel out, and noticed a pair of forks, and pulled on them, and the frame was attached, along with the cranks, rear deraileur, seatpost, seat, brakes, and after a little more digging, the rear wheel. I loaded up the frame on my back and shuttled it home. went back, picked up the front wheel too. It's a raleigh, have no idea what year or model. I bought some fat road tires from nashbar, some new bars, put on an old set of mountain bike forks ('originals' were a bit twisted), new cables, toe straps, and threw it together. My very first road bike, althought it's about an inch and half too large.
I've since figured out a gear that will work out, and removed the singulator, and now I'm trying to build a fixed wheel. So, if it's a bit goofy, forgive me, just learning the fixed/road stuff out. If the image didn't load, follow the link...

And I thought that I rode with the saddle nose down... wow!

One day last winter, when riding back after robbing a bank I passed a garbage heap in front of Halle Berry's house (garbage day). I noticed a vintage Raleigh Technium glistening in the garbage heap, so I investigated .....

Hazard, amazing! You could successfully market recycled Raleigh Technium frames as "Hazard" SS and fixies on ebay!

Speaking of ebay I've just bid on a Raleigh Technium 420 frameset (item no 3665005233). Plan to build a Raleigh fixed gear since I really enjoy commuting on a 1984 Raleigh Technium recently converted to SS.

The SS is 38:20 (51.3 gear-inches) The fixie will be 44:20 (59.4 gear-inches) to achieve less spinning and better cranking for some single track in Boulder. Any one have alternative gear-ratio suggestions?

Just put Tioga 700x38c Bloodhounds on a tough Marin Sausalito. What an aggressive 700 tread! Effortlessly rolled through greasy snow and over discarded road bikes on my commute this morning. I don't think the Bloodhounds will mate with the Raleigh Heron. So instead I'll use Hutchison Gold Pro cyclocross 700 32c tires that have proven to be sure-footed and agile on the 1984 Technium over Boston's disintegrating cow paths and muddy trails.

I'm excitedly waiting for the day I'll see another fixie on the road, let alone another Bianchi Pista. All we have out here are neon-colored-organ-donors (road geeks).

i ride a fixie...go downtown. hang out on market street for a while on a weekday and you'll see a bunch of them...there's a wall somewhere between 3rd and 5th where a bunch of the messengers hang out. go there and you'll see some of the nicest fixed gears ever.

i live in berkeley. we should maybe ride sometime?

I live over in Marin (I only put S.F. for my location so people know the general area). I do mega-rides all the time over here, but wouldn't mind heading over to the East Bay one of these Sundays. I volunteer at Trips-For-Kids (check out the site, it's a pretty great bicycling idea!) on the weekends, but will skip out if you wanna ride.
Let me know...

Didn't work for me either. It might be a filter problem at my school.

absntr 03-11-04 11:59 AM

They work for me.

Jonny B 03-11-04 02:37 PM

I checked 'em three times and they're fine at my end, but I'll see what I can do.
