not fortunate to have a velodrome close by. only 3/4 mile oval track and 30-60 mile straights for now. velodrome sooner or later.....

Just to make another point about the saddle to bar drop issue: A person who rides bikes in the 50-53 range like myself and a person riding a 62 are going to have different arm lengths, proportional to their height. That means less saddle to bar drop on the smaller bike, and greater on the larger bike.

you've lost all your points other than you think it looks better. that is the worst reason to do anything in regards to your bicycle. function over form is the standard, not the exception.

somebody asks this question every time he posts his bike. no he doesn't ride his track bike on the track, but neither do most other people around here. that's why we're posting in the fixed gear forum, not the track one.
