well, not exactly. the milling of stems and seatposts was part of the era of drilling cranks, chainrings, handlebars, and anything else that a rider or team mech could fit into a drill press.

i mean, whether or not lightening a mid80s bike was that helpful in race situations - well, kind of dubious - but all that removal of mass, small though each one is, did lighten the bikes (cumulative effect of marginal gains).
