|

Since riding a SS/FG is about embracing the simplicity and minimalist ethos of the direct drive train it seem wasteful and excessive to carry derailleurs & non-essential hardware, especially in the flattest of all lands. More a trainer than a here-to-there shuttle. Is the downtube beaded? PS. Carnaval in Maastricht is the be it and end all of a proper costume party. |

Surly Crosschecks are the only cross frames that I know of that can take such large tires. Any other frame you look into would be a touring frame and that geometry may be a bit too slow
The Crosscheck is probably still a bit snappier but these look promising. They'll be in the US this summer. |

One girl's IRO Mark V...
So... I was very inspired by Gyeswho's "utilitarian" IRO, though I see that he's moved on to another epic build with the Surly Crosscheck! :thumb:
Anyways, this is my version of the Mark V. It's still a work in progress. Sorry for the green tires - they're my "all seasons" and will likely be swapped out for something black (ok, maybe with some pink :D ) in the spring. Frame: 53cm Mark V Headset: CK Stem: Thomson Seatpost: Ritchie Cranks/BB: Sugino 75 (165/46) Bars: Bike Nashbar Brakes/levers: Tektro I've had the wheelset for a year or so: Mavic OPC, laced to Phil Wood high flange, fixed/free. http://imgcash1.imageshack.us/img16/945/iromarkvwv4.jpg http://imgcash4.imageshack.us/img22/...ksuginoml2.jpg http://imgcash1.imageshack.us/img22/6064/ckingen4.jpg |
^^horrifying.
|
i'd be totally down with that bike if it wasn't for the color scheme and the hoods. Get some bar end levers. I'd recomend getting silver 75s or something but since I assume you dropped a pretty penny on those you'll stick with them.

I think it would look good without the green tires. That shade of pink does NOT match that shade of green. To add insult, neither of those colors match the black of the bike.

Lol! I did say those are my all season tires - sorry, wasn't about to sacrifice traction for a pair of color-coordinated black slicks!
I agree with the bar end levers, but I pretty much used what I had lying around, and they are surprisingly comfy. Dayvan Cowboy - I like the silver sugino's as well, but as a girl, I figure I can use as much pink as I want! :) |
black can absorb all color wavelengths of light.
doesn't mean it can fix a nasty color combination aesthetic. the bike is awesome but it definitely needs some white or black tires once the snow goes away. in addition, omghi2u. |
Glad to inspire your utility build Riff. Once you get those black or pinks, it'll be all set. :thumb:
All nerded out :P (but it will definitely have multiple looks to it. I may take the fenders off and use the other ones:D) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3413/...831df960_b.jpg |
Sheer beauty Gyeswho! Thanks for keeping up the inspiration! Will you be mounting racks as well?
Photoshop gave me a view of both... I am inclining toward the black... http://imgcash2.imageshack.us/img23/2234/pinkyon6.jpg http://imgcash4.imageshack.us/img21/...nkblackqz7.jpg |
Thanks. I'll be throwing a rack on it from time to time
Honestly I like pink better |
Decisions, decisions... :) Although we're having a warm spell, I'm not fooled! I figure I have a couple of months to decide on the tire color!

That is sweet.... But I  my Brooks! It does give it a nice symmetry, though.. Maybe a pink seatpost collar instead?
|
Finished (sort of) my late 90's SS Trek 7000 aka my beater bike, which isnt so beater anymore:
I'll be changing the saddle and seatpost, and gearing soon. Right now it is 42x15. I'm probably going to end up somewhere around 38x16. Its mainly used for commuting. Its a blast to ride though. Having brakes makes my balls bigger! http://generate.polishsoup.net/photography/IMG_2783.jpg http://generate.polishsoup.net/photography/IMG_2784.jpg http://generate.polishsoup.net/photography/IMG_2791.jpg http://generate.polishsoup.net/photography/IMG_2792.jpg |
