i love phil wood as well. In fact my favorite set of wheels ever (phil woods) was stolen a few weeks ago. The Durace are really nice. I had to get them because the rear spacing on my bike is 112mm and the axles are 8mm. Even the front fork is needs a slotted so i got 110mm durace with slotted 8mm axles. d |

Blast. Oh well, maybe it's a good thing that I'm not spending any more cash on bikes

wow - nice restoration job! Where did you get it painted?
|
Yea, that's an awesome paintjob!
|
If your lookin at "Fixation" I painted it.Lettering also. Just wish I had Fatlace's cutter for the lettering masks.Tryed to capture the very old-school 30s look .Did some adj. on the chain etc and took it for a test ride---yep,needs a small tweeking. The chain ring bolts scrape! But when doing as much mods as this one took--I guess that an't too much to tweek.---sam

Up date on my Zic Zac a.k.a the "Asphalt Rocket":
http://hometown.aol.com/yoshi531/myh...ollection.html BTW-----I just scored a Cinelli 120mm track stem, Nitto 40cm (yes I know, I need shims) track bar, Suntour Superbe pedals w/clips, and a Phil Wood lock ring. I'm waiting for the Phil Wood sprocket. Once it arrives, I'll remove the brakes and file away the guides. I gotta tell ya, the Michelin slicks atop the 650C deep dish, laced with double butted spokes around the PWs are insane! It handles so ****ing tight - no flexing - with slicks tracking! I can dive so deep into corners (like Moto GP) and acceleration feels more like bursts. I have to confess, once I go fixed, I'm gonna miss the "deep-Stuka-dives" into corners; not to mention that whole "fang" look with the brake levers. |

blue, black, grey scheme This is my fixed conversion thus far. I may have lowered the stem a little more down, but it looks pretty much like that. I am waiting to save some money to buy myself a ss/track frame soon. |
here is my makino. after excessive ridiculousness in getting parts, it is pretty much done. will probably be switching out the wheels to clinchers at some point. and yes, i know, the yellows don't match 100%. i don't care. it's not all njs. i don't care either. it will be ridden and will get dirty. i'm happy about this.
http://www.chemicalwarfare.net/~apratt/makinoofdoom.jpg for those who care: frame - 58x58 makino keirin track frame wheels - dura-ace 28h high flange hubs laced to mavic cxp-30 tubular rims tires - some continental tubulars cog - dura-ace 1/8" 16T tensioners - mks bottom bracket - dura-ace 7610 cranks - dura-ace track 167.5mm (square taper type) chainring - sugino zen 47T chain - izumi esh pedals - mks royal nuevo with mks clips and toshi straps headset - hatta swan stem - nitto 58 degree 110mm steel drop bars - nitto b123 grips - champ seatpost - dura-ace saddle - well-loved selle italia turbo i think that's the pertinent information. feel free to critique. i love this bike. |
that wheelset is nice - just passed one up last week b/c the frame was not all that great and the dude wanted to sell it complete. I say ride the tubulars on the street. just carry a spare.
overall, Captain Belated Birthday, it is a nice build. |

Agreed, nice build. If you don't care about dirt and wear, then ditch the top tube protector.
|
i live for top tube protectors.
zempf. nope, i just finished it this morning when i got my zen chainring in the mail. just for reference.. the saddle is no longer at that ridiculous angle. my wrists were killing me when i got in to work today. it was brutal. |
more pics of the makino please
