My ride. Soon to have a brooks (maybe, if my dad can find it ha) and sugino 75's. |
Bikeskatethrash-
Mmm, that's yours? I dig the style! I even saved it to harddrive. (hope you don't mind.) Jess |
Josh, your most fine Scapin caught my attention at FGgallery(#1,585) as well.

Schwinn "Wrecked Ol'" Probe:
38x14, ghost chainring, winterbike. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...lakereduct.jpg |
How in the hell does that work? I have seen it elsewhere, but am totally confused. What is the chaining attatched to??
|
a whole lot of nothin. The top of the chain rolls it forward, the bottom rolls it back, net result: no change.
Chain tension keeps it in place. Though that's a pretty big idler. |
pretty cool stuff, I might have to try that
|
why not just lose the ring and shorten the chain?
|
Yeah, it works, should have used a bigger ghost ring to take up more tension, like a 42 or so. Just wanted to do something cheap, dealing with vertical dropouts, with parts I had around and build up a low budget winter beater. I didn't really like the feeling, not the wired oneness with the bike sensation of a normal fix, so I went to that peak.org (?) site, it turns out with my chainstay length, the 39x14 combo worked perfectly with a 3/32" KMC half-link, so that's what it's running now.
Nice group of people here so far, recognize some names from the FGG forum. |
Just about done...
http://img192.exs.cx/img192/3020/a4pl.jpg I picked up the frame for $214 on eBay two months back. It was listed in the wrong catagory, under the wrong size & incorrect title. The parts came from other bikes and stuff lying around my house. Putting this together cost me less than what a new regular Bianchi Pista would run. |
Nice. Good deal on the frame.

Raygunner - What front hub is that?
|
Dura-Ace.

My new ride, with a new (to me) front wheel and seatpost. Frame is a homepainted (by previous owner) Dave Scott Centurion Ironman Expert. Shifter braze-on disappeared after spending time in the bathtub with my dremel, same with the lawyer lips on the fork. I have since removed the Terry saddle, and put on a WTB SST. Bullhorns are fliped and chopped from a discarded Free Spirit (steel!) and the aerobars were 1 dollar at a garage sale. Comfy. The rear tire is some no name 27" so with the 700c front wheel I think I have a sloping top tube. I feel so cool. |

Here's the new one, thanks to [165] for helping out with the build. The bike can be seen in a former life on the first page of this thread.
56cm Surly Steamroller, Sugino 75 cranks, Eggbeaters, Nashbar rear and Bullseye front hub, EAI cog, KMC chain, Nitto bullhorns, and one hot Salsa saddle! 49x16 http://icarus.uic.edu/~rchapp1/image.../IMG_1258a.jpg I got a flat about a minute or two after this picture was taken, with no tools with me. Good thing I was less than a mile from home. |
Great pic & great bike!
It looks like a dog pissed on the light pole... Where's the fork from? |
Is that Marquette Park?
Maybe...Oriole Park? |
Ryan - looks hot. You should get rid of the stickers though, leave it all clean and whatnot. Just that brown - I miss that Steamroller colour.
DCC ride soon. |
ryan c- dig the steamroller. stick that in your headtube and smoke it.
|
The fork is an old unicrown Masi - nothing fancy though.
How is that saddle? Thanks Ryan for making the frame roll again. |
