Okay. nevermind - I see you're selling the frame though. Are those the RD's on there?

ink1373 02-17-05 05:19 PM

oh! i almost forgot, thanks to absntr for the cranks.

the supertype and most of the components stay with me. it's the frame/fork and some extras that i'm looking to sell. i love that freakin' seatpost.

you probably can't tell from the picture, but the nipples alternate silver/black/silver/black all around the wheel. thats my favorite maker's mark yet.

I love my Supertype as well (props and mucho grassy a$$ to 165 for the hook-up) - such a sexy beast.

What hubs are on there - who made them with the alternating nipples?

apologies for grainy phonecam pic at night shot, but it's all i have for now

update 6 months later : the main components haven't changed but i've switched out some of the lighter accessories & with every iteration is showing its BMX-ness more & more : straight bars, bmx grips, bmx cranks (155mm), 48x16

i hope to have a new build ready in a few months with the shady frame i got off ebay. hopefully will find some good parts at monstr track swap meet this saturday...

I'm headed to NYC in late April. For some crazy reason I'm thinking I'm gonna see you bike locked up on the street. Then I'll have lunch at the Soup Nazi's place.

ink1373 02-17-05 05:51 PM

the hubs are IROs and i did the build myself. radial front 3x rear.

i love IRO hubs. they're beautiful and so so smooth. it's going to be hard to justify buying anything else. i want to do phils on my fixed tourer, but i have a hard time believing that it's really worth $100 more than a near-perfect IRO hub.

Basically stock Bianchi Pista, 2005 model in "nyc, don't steal me please" guise. Nicknamed "love sucks bike" because of the so called funny bunny loves sucks head badge sticker on it. Still sporting Valet bike parking tags on the spokes from the nyc new years critical mass ride. Bar tape was removed after it went from white to gross blackness. Seat is a bmx take off, (chrome seat on the pista is hideous).

very, very nice, goki. hopefully everything arrives unbroken and in short order - got my fingers crossed for ya.

vomitron 02-18-05 05:40 PM

New fork, new front wheel.

Still needs: New chainring, CX lever, Suzue ProMax CF front hub.

Bad photo, but here's my new 70's fixed Mikado $40 beater. The rad components include chrome cottered cranks, old dry rot tires, really thin diameter bars flipped and sawed...ends plugged with wine bottle corks, added foam pads for comfort, old double chainring and guard still attached, and silver/red star ribbon tied on by my girlfriend. I'm really loving riding fixed, not sure when I'll get back on my geared bike.

vomitron - *gasp* that is amazing.

ryan_c - very cool bike. especially the mismatching wheels.
I don't think I've ever owned a true wheelset.

general - it has been very long since I clicked this thread
and I it is information overload. I don't need a new fixie,
I don't need a new fixie, I don't need a new fixie, I don't
need a new fixie, I don't need a new fixie, I don't need...

vomitron i gotta say i like your bike a lot more with the 650c front wheel. or maybe it's just that that picture does it for me more than the others. looking good.

PhattTyre 02-18-05 08:08 PM

vomitron... I've never been a fan of the look of GT's triple triangle or of forward sloping top tubes, but that is one hot looking ride you got there.

here's my new commuter and round-the-town bike project.

i totally didn't need another bike, but when i saw it for cheap on craigslist, i couldn't resist.

when i got it, it was built up with a 7-speed suntour group with flat bar and shimano integrated shifter/brake levers. it had the yellow steelman fork on there and since i happened to have all this other yellow crap (fixed wheelset with yellow velocity aerohead rims and a yellow saddle) kicking around, so i figured i'd go for the full hot dog motif.

i stripped the deraillers and other stuff, installed the wheelset, an old set of 3TTT drops and salsa cross top-mount levers i had from other bikes and bought a cheapy dotek crankset and mounted the ring on the inside for a remarkably straight chainline with a 16T shimano freewheel.

this is one sweet riding bike... i prefer fixed for most round-the-town riding, but i could get used to early-morning coasting to work.

frame: early 90s pinarello 57cm cross
fork: steelman cross
cranks: dotek bmx/track cranks
pedals: mks sylvan track
clips: mks chrome
straps: EAI leather
brakes: suntour mountain
levers: salsa cross
wheelset: surly hubs with velocity aerohead rims, shimano freewheel
tires: specialized armadillo 28c
bars: 3TTT
stem: 3TTT
grips: oury mountain
post: thompson aluminum
saddle: specialized

Damn, that must have taken some work to get thsoe BMX grips up there.

WithNail 02-21-05 09:28 AM

you would be suprised how easy it is with some hairspray.

brunning 02-21-05 03:47 PM

i usually use simple green or another degreaser.

rubbing alcohol works, too.

wet the bars and inside of the grips and they slide on easily and dry into place pretty quickly.
