Great bike! Ditch the brake and get some drop bars and your set

yeah just got her built up. Started on friday and finished today. Not bad especially since all the items minus the seatpost and the chain were out of my spare parts "bin" and by bin i mean off of my living room floor (my gf used to hate that)

so yeah $18 for the chain, $4 for the Krylon "Celery" spraypaint (which really is a minty green even though it looks kinda grey in the photos) and $11 for the chain is $33. a very cheap bike.

it was my first road bike when i was 16 so i guess it has some personal meaning as well and for the last 3 years this Specialized Sirrus frame and fork has been laying in my parents attic doing nothing. until friday when i realized i wanted a fixie again and that old red was the girl to do it with.

thanks for reading

SBL-
Tuesday = da Surly, 53cm grey from Yojimbo's. Stella = 53cm DeBernardi. One full Surly w-set (on Stella) and a Surly/Miche on Tuesday.
And you know you're jealous...
ha!

Did she realize she loves you so much that it didn't matter, or did she leave you in search of a man without bike parts all over his house? :)

schwinnbikelove 01-19-05 02:16 PM

It's funny. I saw that he had a 53cm on sale cheap, and I thought "Hmm, nice bike-here I come." Shortly thereafter, your pictures are posted. BASTARD! (which of course is code word for 'congratulations on the new build' ;) )

So does each one have it's dedicated uses, or is it just whatever the heck you feel like riding?-setup wise they look pretty similar.

Seriously though, I like Surly alot, but I've determined my exact frame size, and they don't really fit it. :(

Take care.

Nice build. Love the pink tape. Drop me a line. I'm trying to get a fixie group ride together in Sac.

Ha ha...if I had a dollar for each time I was called bastard...

the DeBernardi is going to be the velodrome bike (once I finish 2 qtrs of grad school) and the Surly is the streettrack.

Vivalo Keirin frame, Record cranks & BB, Chorus headset, NJS bars, soon to come Nitto stem currently using road stem, Velocity Deep V and high flange hubs with rubinos, waiting for new brooks saddle in the mail. Riding 43x15. My fave part about this bike is the gold chainring and gold chain viva la bling! Ready to build another, have money, but can't find small 49cm frame.

adamkell 01-21-05 02:36 PM

those rims look amazing on that bike!

Wow, nice. If you're in Oakland, CA, you and Karmical should come out for a ride in the city sometime, when we get organized again.

Ok, it's now singlespeed and rideable, still waiting for some parts right now.

smurfy 01-22-05 04:18 PM

Hey, there's that bike that so hot you better park it next to a fire extinguisher in case it spontaneously combusts! :)

Here's a pic of my DIY chain tensioner I carved out of a block of aluminum. It looks a little crude now but I'm going to take it to machine shop at work and put it in the tumbler to polish it.

Question: Why are you using a chain tensioner on a bike with horizontal dropouts?
