It looks good like it is, just thinking about the possibility. It is a cool item, you don't really need one on a bike with horizontal dropouts. If I were you and I made it, I would keep it on my bike too. Don't try to use it if you decide to go fixed gear, that may be dangerous. You can fool around with the chainring to get it more centered to help with the tight/loose problem. |
Question: Why are you using a chain tensioner on a bike with horizontal dropouts? And yes, 2manybikes, that is a very good idea (the 2 or 3 holes in the middle) and I'm going to do just that. Thanks for pointing that out. Why didn't I think of that! :p :) No, I'm not making this bike a fixed gear since I already have two of those. More pictures later (and of the whole bike) when I get it finished. |
The beginning of my new ride. Like I need another but hey, it was such a deal I now can afford to have Business Cycles build me up some new wheels!
Wrong catagory, wrong size, wrong title. It was so wrong...but it felt so right! "Miracles are the way things ought to be" - Cyrus http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...125427530&rd=1 http://img193.exs.cx/img193/8312/a7ly.th.jpg |
holy cr4p!! that's what i call a score.
wanna sell it? :D |
From San Leandro... probably straight from the Bianchi USA distribution facility. They would probably have gotten more bids if they listed it with a better title.
|
It'd be pretty sweet to have "Prototype Use Only" written on your frame.

And it's just across the bay, I could've saved shipping... |
Yeah, I was curious about the seller's sizing (since there isn't a 50cm) so I emailed him, a few times actually. He finally got back to me & said it was 53cm, center to top, so I knew I was in for a deal.

Thanks Karmical! I bought some sweet ass MKS chain tensioners from American Cyclery today. They're pretty as well as easy on, easy off.

Well here's Version 3.0....actually naw...this'll be 2.5...v 3 will be when I get my new wheelset. Since last time I've added Eggbeater Candies that I got on sale for like $40, I aquired those sweet Syntace TT handlebars, and...I think thats about it.

One more thrift store bike made into a fixed-gear for commuting.
Sekine frame (who? dunno, but it's nice lugged steel so I'm happy), unchanged except for removing the shifters et al, new saddle, and I changed the drops out for flat bars, because I'm a lot more comfortable in a more upright position on lumpy sketchy ice/snow/gravel/etc. Those are big platform pedals because when I'm cycling to work in -32c (= -25f) like it was a week ago, it's way too cold to wear anything on my feet that isn't big warm boots, and big warm boots don't play nicely with clipless pedals. I still have the back brake on, because I can't backpedal properly on platform pedals, and with the amount of ice around I want all the slowing-down ability I can get. (those are studded tires, though you can't see it from this angle, so brakes do actually have an effect). |

My singlespeed commuter/ snow bike. It's a Nishiki that I found in the trash in Cambridge in basically perfect condition (just two flat tires and no pedals). I'm used to a fixie, so the original 12 speeds was too much for me and I opted for 6 instead. Shortly thereafter, however, I realized that I hate shifting so I swapped in a pair of singlespeed wheels I had lying around. I'm running 44x17 with generic 700 x 35s, some busted-up fenders, stylish and practical cruiser bars, and some rusty old rat-trap pedals. As this picture demonstrates, it is a capable all-weather machine for the Boston area.

Thought I'd throw a pic of my bike up, as I just painted it yesturday, and it's probably looking as good as it ever has. Royal blue spray paint [the flash makes it look brighter]. It's a schwinn world sport frame, I think from the early 80s. Running 40x15, and sporting some surly hubs. I use spd pedals these days. It's my one and only ride, and I've been having so much fun riding it. Now it's just a matter of converting others ;)

Man, I have a pair of Randonneur bars on my tandem, perhaps I should move them to the fixed. They look good on your steed.

No anodizing equipment, unfortunately. we have to send everything out for anodizing. However I do think we have a polishing wheel. I have to be careful what I do there because to the nosy busybodies who might squeal on me!
