Looks to be a Giant adjustable stem from their "3 sizes fit all" era.

goldenskeletons 01-12-08 09:48 PM

i still typically don't line my labels up with my valve stems.

its a convenient solution to what i consider an incredibly small issue. but that's me. i've got other solutions to address the same problems in less matchy matchy terms.

so! on that note, Westokyo, i really like your peloton. i've got one built up all SSP/Dura Ace. i haven't owned a camera a years, but when i get a picture or two i'll post it. mine is filet brazed kasei 4130-R. i love it very much.

Jserse 01-12-08 09:49 PM

yea what stem is that...?

**someone answered as i was posting**

TimArchy 01-12-08 10:31 PM

Looks like a generic adjustable. Actually looks exactly like the one that used to come on giant's entry level road bikes.
They're great for finding your position, but I wouldn't use it as a permanant solution. The bolts that hold them together can develop play and even strip. Especially under the stresses of skidding and climbing in a high gear. I rode one for a year or so with no problem though.

Fork is from Preformance (Forte Axis) Sanded and Repainted with clear coat

Stem is a generic one from a LBS for $5.

Looks great. Aerospokes may have long ago entered Hipster Jackass territory, but I'm not ashamed to admit that I still love them, especially in pairs like that.

Very nice! If you want to continue the blue theme, Soma makes some fenders that come in blue. Otherwise, some hammered Honjo fenders would look great.

yeah, totally. i dunno, when i get a flat, i check the tire thoroughly by running my hand/a bandana around the inside while looking for glass. it takes two seconds, and it's pretty obvious where **** is using that method, and i really fail to see how lining the label up really helps. the hole in the tube is usually pretty obvious, so i don't need to find it, and the rag method works well enough for me.

doomkin 01-12-08 11:57 PM

matching the label with the valve stem is a sign of professionalism. it's something we enforce strictly at my shop.

humancongereel 01-12-08 11:59 PM

and there's the real reason. a practical thing for which you should be criticizing others' bikes, or something most of us who don't work at shops should concern ourselves with? nah, if you're not a professional to whom it's a sign of professionalism, then it's just ocd.

miss_emma 01-13-08 12:04 AM

Word.

humancongereel 01-13-08 12:08 AM

why, thank you.

Straws 01-13-08 12:09 AM

I do it on my bikes.

humancongereel 01-13-08 12:13 AM

which is okay, i won't say it's bad to do so, but i think if you're not in a shop, the importance and advantage are negligible, and to actually find that offensive in someone else's bike or to promote that as a necessary thing everyone must do is just overboard, as is sometimes seen on this board.

marqueemoon 01-13-08 12:34 AM

I've pulled off a tire after replacing a tube and repositioned it because the logo wasn't lined up several times. I mean I didn't even ride it home. Just sat there on the curb and redid it.

andre nickatina 01-13-08 01:00 AM

Meh, I line the tire logo with the tube or 180 away from it too...

thequickfix 01-13-08 01:22 AM

Lining up the label also makes it easy to spot the location of the valve at a glance and it usually puts the PSI rating of the tire right by the valve.

I do it because it just looks better somehow.

No offense. I just think that is way too low for a mtb, let alone fixed.

If someone ever bothered to steal it and make a speedy get away, I guess seeing them try and do it would be worth a laugh.

and with valve stems, Just like shaving legs. Its for aesthetics. You can make up any practical excuse, but why do you think people use aerospokes. Once again, try any excuse, it's still the same reason.

There are two types of people in this world my friend . Those with aerospokes and those that wish they had 'em but dare not admit it at the risk of being labelled a hipster .
The all black thing meh.....but the the bike still looks pretty cool . nice job dude .

I have it on good authority that a thorn can end up lodged in a tyre so that you can't feel the tip from the inside nor the butt end from the outside (not easily anyway), but it can still move as you ride the bike and puncture the tube. I guess that's pretty ****ing rare but cd still be worth lining up labels & valves. I guess this can only realistically happen with thicker tyres tho. I can easily imagine it happening w/ a knobby.

LOL, I kinda did the same thing. Ive always had bikes but once I lost interest in finishing my road race hatch I parted it out to finance other stuff and finish up some bike projects. Havent been on HT in a while, I bet gdd is still funny as hell though.

thats kinda the point. if your already into aesthetics enough to spend the time to make sure your entire bike matches, why not do it?

gargiulo.mike 01-13-08 08:48 AM

son of ronex, why do you use a spinergy? try an exscuse, its still the same reason.

pake frame and two aerospokes?
wow that bike and some hill will make you a super star when you up grade to a bike that weighs a reasonable weight.

that thing must weigh a ton.

ps a little goo gone and those aerospoke lables come right off.

rduenas 01-13-08 10:20 AM
