Wow, I usually dislike predominantly chrome bikes, but that ride is haute. Congrats!

Ceya 02-12-05 01:04 PM

GH,

Good stuff.

S/F,
CEYA!

I likes the looks of that Cannondale. Both the chrome and the geometry. I love forward sloping top tubes, but I'm not quite brave enough for a pursuit frame.

gravityhurts 02-12-05 01:58 PM

Thank you all for the kind words and especially to LuckyCat for his "open minded" advise concerning non-steel bikes. It allowed me to be objective, not subjective, test riding the Cannondale. This Can is a welcomed addition.

I likened it to cars. My 04 Mazda 3 is somewhat sporty and is appointed with all the creature comforts making travel pleasant. Kinda like my road bike. My 70 240Z (modified) is inches off the ground telegraphing every inch of the road, has crank-up windows, no heat, no air, not even a radio (too load) and makes driving a blast. Much like my FG.

Again many thanks to all of you for your insight and support, it's appreciated.

BTW---Rolling on the smooth surface at my local track, the carbon saddle was fine. However, on a short jaunt to the beach sitting on that thin shell atop the Can proved difficult. I'm sure even Michael Schumacher would agree here-LOL.

i think gravityhurts could start a pretty extensive FGG of just his own rides!

raygunner 02-12-05 06:28 PM

Soon, my pretty, soon....

dolface 02-12-05 06:29 PM

wow, that looks nice man!
did you have that saddle lying around, or did you get it for that build?

raygunner 02-12-05 06:32 PM

Tomorrow I'll roll out my Pista Concept, my Cinelli Olympic & this baby above (thanks Dolface!)

raygunner 02-12-05 06:33 PM

It's a saddle & thompson seatpost I took off a bike I stripped for parts. My basement has become quite the chopshop.

raygunner 02-12-05 06:34 PM

I need to throw on some new bars. I'm putting on a Miche crankset I have but I need a bigger chainring...

dolface 02-12-05 06:36 PM

well, with any luck i'll have new one to show you all next week.

raygunner 02-12-05 06:43 PM

Did you grab the Dacordi?

dolface 02-12-05 06:47 PM

no, the dacordi got outta my price range real quick.
i got an 80's lotus (i didn't even know they made track frames) that'll get here on monday.
i think i'm gonna have wheels built this week (phils, silver deep v's), and then all i need is a headset. i'm trying to find a 1 threaded king without the big ugly lettering on it, like the one on the frame you got from me.

raygunner 02-12-05 06:58 PM

Hmmm...and I want one with the ugly lettering...

If you ever have a line on something nice 'n steel from the '80s in my size (and that you don't want) let me know.

Now that's my cup of tea. You don't see a whole lot of those around either. In my college days there was a guy on our squad who owned a Masi Crit, you know, the purple one, V3. It was gorgeous and handled like a true thoroughbred. Add to that, I can recall the Russian amateur team dominating the Tour De Trump on red Masis with CCCP decals on the seat tubes.

A Masi definitely have the pedigree.

Wasn't this determined to be a fake? Dolface??

Still looks good. Nice and tight.

ink1373 02-13-05 11:34 AM

dolface, i don't know about chris king's inparticular, but nail polish remover can take off some decals without leaving a trace. no scratches, only takes about 5 seconds with a qtip.

raygunner 02-13-05 06:19 PM

From Dolface on the Masi:

"as far as i was able to find out, mostly from the folks on the classic
rendezvous mailing list, iit was made by torelli in 1994 (the serial
number is a torelli number).

torelli used to make a track frame called the 'pista speciale' but
other than the name, and the fact that it came only in a color called
'torelli red' i wasn't able to find anything out about it.

i don't know how it came to have masi decals on it, but i got an email
from someone who used to know johnnie abreu in new york, who told me
that johnnie was a racer who also ended up doing some time for dealing
acid and pot, so the bike's definitely got some history".

Stats:
Bridgestone 400 in gun metal grey from Working Bikes here in Chicago (http://www.workingbikes.org)
Sakae SX cranks, 52 tooth chainring
20 dollar Ascent clipless pedals - cheap but they work pretty well.
Cut off Nitto's, now stubby bullhorns.
Rear wheel: MA3 rim with Suzue hub
Front wheel: Sun M13II with Shimano RSX hub (both wheels as a wheelset from NYCBikes.com)
700x28 Vittoria Radonneur tires - nice smooth roll, perfect for commuting.
Spanking new SRAM PC-1 chain - el cheapo and el reliable.

I see this bike on Southport...

I dunno what happened to the pic...duh!

I think I'm gonna drop some acid this weekend to get in touch with my new ride. I'm sure the next day I'll be rambling about black helicopters & grinding my teeth down...

*shudder* just thinking about trying to ride fixed on acid makes my brain whimper.
can you imagine the potential for badness?

jordache 02-13-05 09:06 PM

Nah, as long as you're riding after the initial phase has past and you're well adjusted, riding a bike is great fun. Ecstacy is the best for bikes, though (with some Daft Punk on headphones).

techone 02-14-05 04:55 AM

I rode all the way thru central london (hyde park to hackney, if anybody knows anything about london) on mushrooms after a chili peppers show. Probably the funnest ride I ever had thru the city!

But when tripping one tends to "fixate" on things and really get into it...I bet it could be fun!
