Jimv, that is a nice bike. I'm also a tall guy and I go back and forth what I think looks better- smaller bikes like Raygunner's 51cm? Bianchi posted above, or taller bikes like yours- is it a 61cm ?
With taller bikes, I like how it opens up the middle triangle and makes the bike seem more elegant. |

Semi-new bike- finally got around to taking a picture of it.
Built it up last fall, and it's treated me well this winter, with the exeption of one chain-drop incident (change yer chains folks, or end up skidding to a stop in the middle of a pack of roadies like me). Some cabbie backed into it while it was locked up a couple weeks ago, and threw the rear a little out of alignment, but not so i notice while riding. |

If you have tight fenders, you really don't even need brakes at all, since the drag from all the built up slush will slow you to a stop in a jiffy.
However, this is compensated for by the increased aerodynamics of spokes and hub. fatbat |

here's a link to my bike:

Last night I built my first wheel, which was the last piece I needed to get my new fixed gear commuter bike on the road. I used to read people saying how wheelbuilding was fun and think they were all crazy weirdos, but you know what? I must be a crazy weirdo, because wheelbuilding is fun!
The rear wheel is Nashbar's fixed/fixed flipflop hub laced 32H/3X to a Sun CR-18 rim with a Surly track cog (thanks, dolface!) For now the front wheel's just taken off my previous commuter, as are the handlebars, with everything else bought here & there. My gearing's a little tall right now, at 50x18, but it's fun as heck to ride. They're the "Toro" re-branded Syntace Stratos bullhorns chucksbikes.com was selling a while ago for $10 (currently sold out, but he told me he may have more soon). I wish I'd bought three instead of one. The levers are Tektro RX 2.1 'cross levers. I found 'em on eBay for $10 (They usually go for $20 - I think they ended low because they've got 31.8 diameter clamps. I just used pieces of an old inner tube as shims). Oh, the 2.1 version is the 2005 model - it's got a return spring. The previous Tektros, 2.0, don't. They're not really comfortable enough to use fulltime as primary levers (although that might be different for someone with smaller fingers than me). I'm probably going to pick up a set of bar-end levers and put these as secondary levers on my 'cross bike. |

FlippingHades - nice ride, I like the colours.
On another note though - I noticed that the Nashbar hub you built looks exactly the same as the stock hub on the Bianchi Pista 05, which is also fixed/fixed - who's making these since a lot of folks don't think they're formula. |
FlippingHades, did that white seatpost come with the bike? It matches the seattube post perfectly. I'd love to see a white saddle on it.
How much equipment did you need to build your own wheel? (Truing stand and that is it?) |
is that a Nishiki Olympic? i used to have one of those. it was my first road bike.
