i could've gotten the raceblades, and in retrospect, i probably should have, and i sort of with that i had...but i wanted the honjo hammertones. i actually bought them with the intention of putting them on that bar bike, but then i had the fenders, and it started raining before i got that bike together. raceblades were only a little bit less expensive than these, so i just decided to splurge a bit.
the mounting system is super nifty, if not a pain in the ass to install. the fenders come totally undrilled and you have to measure and do everything yourself. my only complaint about them is the nut for the rear brace rattled itself loose and fell off, along with this little ring that fits between the fender and the brace and keeps the brace from rattling...i found a replacement nut, but no luck for the stupid ring. |

Just finished my first singlespeed, a 1983 Raleigh Olympian running 27" wheels, 42-16, Modolo Flash brakes, and Gipiemme CR Sport crank. This will be a two phase project of sorts as it is only single now but I'll go to a fixed/free flip flop hub in the future.

i have two dimension stems. they're pretty nice for being just the basic QBP house brand....and they're pretty much the only quill stems that a shop can get anymore that are worth something...profile design still has a few, but nowehere near the selection of the dimension stems.

Here's my newly built up Fixed/SS Crosscheck. My first fixie ride, only taken her out once so far but I'm hoping to commute on Friday and try a little offroad fixie action over the weekend :)

i've seen a few bikes with rubber bands or bracelets on their hubs. is this just pride in a homemade wheel build?

maybe it's a variation of the old-school toestrap around the hub to keep it polished?
|
In the sixties all bikes had oiled leather straps around the hubs to keep them clean and shiny. So yes it is old school.
|
I made hemp hub cleaners for my singlespeed mtb. I meant to make more for all my other bikes, but haven't gotten around to it. They work well and save you from trying to get a rag in between the spokes to clean the hub.

48 x 16. The geometry is nice to look at. If I ever get tired of the orange I'll go flat black. silver bars tho. cheesy photoshop :p I like the orange, for what it's worth. |
