What does that say?

My first fixie. Just finished sloppily putting all the parts on out of excitement so it has yet to be fined tuned and ridden. Still need to add grips and a front brake. Frame courtesty of mikorp, stem courtesy of dolface via ebay, and the rest of the parts, sans wheelset and pedals, courtesy of Jonathan who's online handle I don't know.

Well, after riding for a week or so I wanted to make it official and post pics of the Nolageek Project bike, for those of you who wern't a part of the Specific Act of Kindness that was Thead #135395 of this forum.
The short version: Hurricane Katrina yadda yadda yadda my apartment blah blah blah 7 feet of water yadda yadda lost my Bianchi yadda ... the forum donated parts, shipped them to Tony of IRO and sent me this fantastic bike, which I have since named Katrina, of course. Details are in Thead #135395 Better pics are on my Flickr page. I don't remember all the specs, but off the top of my head: IRO Mark V Frame Velocity Fusion rims on IRO Hubs Nitto Drops/Nitto stem IRO Cranks I believe it's 46/18. but I could be wrong. It feels perfect though. Selle Italia Genuine Gel nitrox saddle w/ manganese rails and Campy post A huge thanks to everyone who made this happen. |

Longtime lurker, firsttime poster, at least to this thread.
My first conversion. I 'd done nothing to bike more complicated that changing a tire before this project. It's my old Raliegh Team road bike from the late '80's, converted now to fixed gear (44x17), with a new rear wheel and these crazy moustache bars (jury's still out on the handlebars). I've been riding fixed at the velodrome for about 4 months now, and rode this to the train this morning for the first time. Man, it's weird riding fixed downhill! But so far, this bike rides really well - I feel very connected to the road, and it's nice to ride a springy steel frame again. There was a thread a few days ago about conversions not being as easy as everyone makes them out to be. This was both easier and harder than I expected, if you know what I mean. I learned a lot though, taking it all apart and putting it all back together. Here are the pics, crappy, I know, from my phone. When I clean it up more and paint the fork, I will take new ones: |
Nice Raleigh, I like it, and these days, few conversions look really nice.
The rocket ring sort of kills it though. |
Not yet completed, but due for finish by the end of October, 2005. This is a conversion of a Panasonic road bike bought (severely rusted) at a yard sale for $2! The "faux chrome" on the fork tips and stays is paint only.

i hope this isnt too many pictures... but i come from a picture crazed forum(honda-tech) where 5 pictures is nothing. so here is my first bike, i love it. it is a blast to ride! the build is what interested me in the first place, but now that that is over, for the most part, i havent lost interest. im in college and it is a more affordable hobby than my car right now, i only put ~$100 into the way it sits right now. i plan on getting a new flip flop set of wheels soon, but other than that i am pretty happy with the bike. on to the pics!
