I think that pig is writing you a parking ticket. Better move your bike!

The horror! ... my mostrosity after tape removal, post anodizing removal, big chainring removal, debadging, mismatched wheels, matched crankarms!, shimano 520's, matching tires, some 10$ used seat - works well at that angle - , running 42x13 ... but I am getting a 15 to see how it feels.

I can't take credit for putting it together, as it was almost entirely assembled by Mike Flanigan at Alternative Needs Transportation, but I am really excited to be riding it. Just picked it up on Saturday at his shop in Holliston, MA. Mike is a great builder and a great person. Check out his site if you haven't. http://www.antbikemike.com/

Just out of curiosity - and in case anyone knows - what, exactly, is the functional purpose of those seatstays, and their positioning? I used to ride an old GT mtb, and I'd heard things like the stay position made the frame more rigid/bombproof, but at the time I wasn't savvy enough to really notice a difference.

Do you feel a difference in the way the bike handles relative to bikes with typically positioned stays? (Anyhow, rad bike!)

I think the idea is to create yet another triangle in the frame to increase strength and stiffness. I have never ridden a GT, but I suspect it works as intended and adds a little bit of weight in the process. Funny place to want to add stiffness, though. I'd think a rider would notice more if an extra triangle were placed near the bottom bracket shell or the headtube, but that is just a guess.

i have no words to express how much i like ANT bikes. if matt chester did not exist, i'd be saving for an ANT instead.

ink1373 01-31-06 05:29 PM

i owned a GTB once upon a time. i didn't like the ride especially. it was pretty harsh. nearly impossible to stay comfortable on over long periods of time....but man was it spritely. it could sprint oh so well.

toshi 01-31-06 05:38 PM

Interesting... I recall my gt mtb being pretty spritely too, I could mash and sprint pretty well (it had thin slicks on it). This mercier kilo feels like soggy apple pie in comparison. It may have something to do with the mystery wheelset. Hmmm.

Worked more on my bike this weekend, new cranks (thanks dubteka), bars (thanks dolface), straps, and stem (thanks freewheel). More here.

Oh Yeah, I Like That Lugs!!! Vette ****!

onetwentyeight 01-31-06 06:47 PM

Thanks. I keep getting people telling me to outline them but I don't really want to. :D

maybe when I get a professional paintjob on that thing, someday down the line.

Good for you. That would be fuggin ugly. Those lugs are beautiful, and you don't need to draw attention to them. That'd be like a woman with beautiful breasts putting lipstick on her nipples :P

popluhv 01-31-06 07:00 PM

Analogy of the week!

onetwentyeight 01-31-06 07:02 PM

hahaha. glad somebody's got my back on this one. lipsticked nipples. mMMMmmMmm.

waxy.

bostontrevor 01-31-06 11:44 PM

Yes, but for photoshoots, they do often apply a little rouge.

In like fashion, some light light grey or silver outline would add just a touch of definition without being garish. Just a thought.

onetwentyeight 02-01-06 12:02 AM

If i could chrome the lugs, i'd do it. haha.

I think after the spraypaint gets trashed from riding I want to send it to cycleart or something similar for a nice restoration (and to possibly fix two minor dents). I have ideas of paint schemes, but right now I don't really have the money.
