DUDE! I want your bike. I'm a Steyr pistol fan and moderate the SteyrClub board. I didn't even know there was a bike. Where can I find one?

Not exactly sure. I picked them up at a small shop for a couple dollars, but you can get them on the internet. http://www.bikepartsusa.com/product_...1&p=01%2D79459

You should see the headbadge. Is it the standard DW, or did you go for the one like teadogg's?

Very nice work. Are these lugs still available or are they NOS?

My friend steve just picked this bike up from a local store in our area called Recycles, so I figured i'd take some pictures and throw it up here...

Sorry, no garage door or anything fancy to put it infront of, I found an old painting in my basement!

piedmont triad whaaaaat. recycles is a pretty cool place, but the inventory seems pretty hit or miss.

NCTrey133 08-02-06 05:53 PM

I love the guys from recycles, and yea money Greensboro represent!! I like just walking in and talking with them, great down to earth guys, they're a kona dealer so you can make orders through them and get some really shnazzy stuff.

Vintage Alan

I've had a soft spot for the old narrow-tube aluminum bikes ever since riding a Vitus in the 80's. I didn't listen to the snobs who told me it was whippy, flexible, creaky, and would fall apart in the first season. That Vitus took more abuse than any road bike I've ever had. Anyway, I really wanted to find one for a SS project, but never found one without vertical dropouts (did 100% have verts?). So when I saw this Alan frame on e-bay, I decided to take a flyer, even though it is from the Carter Administration, and will probably "fall apart after one season." :D

I then built it up mostly with spare parts from the garage of the guy who sold it to me. I actually like how it sits right now... but the piece-by-piece upgrade process will be fun! (Sorry, I know most of you are fixies -- I'll get there eventually!)

I am terrible sorry, but before the bicycle looked much better than after, of course beside the new wheels and saddle.

"Lugged" alloy? Cool? Looks good though. What's pinned and glued involve besides the obvious. How is it possible to effectively glue metal? Specially alloy.
