slack chain, haha! that is like the funniest joke -evar-!

number18 05-22-06 11:28 PM

whatever.

humancongereel 05-22-06 11:31 PM

i dunno, i got my gears and chain length perfect to where my axle will hit the front of the dropout before the chain gets slack enough to get thrown...and i have no problem with the slack feeling of it. but, i guess it's a personal thing.

Probably for the same reason that lots of people run stems with rise and drop bars: the *gasp* multiple hand positions, the ability to get low/aero, and the option of a comfortable semi-upright position.

Set the Hour and then you can start telling me how tight I should run my chain.

For some reason, I was having some kind of brain malfunction just now and I kept reading this as "I got my ears and chainlength perfect . . ."

It was pretty funny till I noticed the g.

Great looking fixed gear bike. How do you polish a crank to make it shine like that?

It started out in that position because it's the only 1" threadless stem I've got. I've left it there because it works for me. (I know I could flip it if I wanted). I make a lot of short trips on that bike and it's very convenient to have an upright position.

I'll be picking up a new stem soon and I'll probably go for an *gasp* adjustable stem (Ritchey).

Yes, because a solo 1hr time trial in a velodrome requires the same equipment setup as daily street riding. I admit that personal preference is completely valid for setting chain tension, but don't go dropping Eddy's accomplishments as an allusion to some sort of fact that's really just your opinion.

eddiebrannan 05-23-06 12:03 PM

yeah really. how dare you cite my endeavors to validate your trifling chain taution ideology?

eyefloater 05-23-06 01:19 PM

Exactly. Case closed.

It was actually a reference to Sosenka, thanks.

eyefloater 05-23-06 06:06 PM

Hey, no problem.

Edit: on a serious note, while my buried point about personal preference and riding conditions remains the same I've got to apologize for the Eddy bit. After re-reading your post (yes, the part I quoted) I have no idea how I just magically pulled Merckx out of thin air. I uhh, how you say, regretfully acknowledge my fault.

nothing really fancy or original, but it rides great and i love it.

les walters 05-23-06 06:42 PM

that bar tape looks rad i was gonna get some of that today my lbs dident have any is it comfy?

muftek 05-23-06 06:46 PM

is there adhesive on that stella tape, sers?

sers 05-23-06 06:58 PM

yes it has adhesive - a cinch to apply since the material is sort of stretchy and is reinforced by the threading.

it's not super padded, but i find it comfortable, and the grip is awesome.
