Project: Desert Fox

I picked up this 57cm Fuji track frame from Trackstar NYC awhile ago..
it had been on the wall for so long, and i needed a new bike to replace the one that was totalled when i was hit by a car.
the paint was all chipped but it's a really sturdy steel frame and came with a Centaur BB, Chris King headset, and Sakae Seat Post. I took it to Bike Works for a repaint and they were able to match the colors from what little paint was left on the frame and it came out looking great.
the wheels are Phil hubs laced to Mavic MA40 via DT Champion spokes.
Izumi chain, 18t EAI cog, 48t Rocket chainring, Sakae 700mm cranks, MKS pedals and Clips.
I don't know the brand of the stem but it's got "CB" stamped on it. The handlebars are Kusuki and i have wrapped them in waxed hemp twine using a single-strand ringbolt hitch pattern..not as uncomfortable as you might think and a nice grip.
i'll probably be overhauling the drive train as time and money allow.
it was such a fun build and it rides so smooth.
i just love being on a bike again..

Oh, it's name is Jack Rabbit.

Looks great. The black wheels w/ silver nips are hot on the white frame.

However, may I suggest a new stem? I'm assuming yours came stock with the Pista... it just looks clunky on an otherwise sleek build.

A silver Mutant would be a big improvement, IMHO. Especially with B123's...

While I'm generally not a fan of mixing and matching silver and black components, a Salsa SUL (another lovely threadless stem) would look nice with the black wheels.

The stem is the stock Pista stem (actually the only thing stock on it) and I actually really like it. I'm not a big fan of curvy stems. I like very plain, simple stems. Thanks for the nice words, though. Same to everyone else.

I'm also not a fan of mixing black and silver components.
This bike had Pro Max/ Silver Deep Vs on it until recently (hence the update).
In this case, I like how the black wheels bring the other blacks together.

The salsa S.U.L is nice, if it were silver and not $80 (or so), I'd be all over it.

Hey, so what bike is gonna be in the 10,000th post?

I hope its a bike.

Guys.

jacobpriest 05-24-06 03:53 PM

So, I finally got to a point where i feel semi comfortable taking pictures of my bikes saying they are "done".
First: 70s or 80s Peugeot conversion. Shaved off all the braze ons and spent many hours spray painting it only to be torn up quite easily.
165 Truvative cranks, formula rear hub to Mavic MA3, front wheel barrowed from road bike,
some Selle seat, flip and chop bars and cheapo stem, shimano BB and headset. 39x14

Second, my Romic Track frame from the 70's or 80's
Found this bike at my LBS in Waco, TX being sold by one of the workers. I got a pretty good deal on it. Because of the Aero tubing, the seat post is a special shape and i can't get it to a height i need (about 1/2 inch higher) so its not perfect.
Campy headset and BB, 165 NJS superbe pro cranks, superbe pro hubs laced to campy record tubulars, turbo saddle (COMFY AS HELL), cincelli stem with some form of drops that i dont know the name of but loveeeeeeee.

I really like this conversion, I think it looks hot. A friend of mine has a similar-colored frame--orange=awesome.

tonym 05-24-06 04:17 PM

is that a spike in your brake hole?

hyperRevue 05-24-06 04:23 PM

Yes it is.
An audio speaker isolation spike.

tonym 05-24-06 04:30 PM

lovley shiny touch

hyperRevue 05-24-06 04:32 PM

Thanks.
I was just at my brother's apartment one day and he had a bag full of these things and I picked one up and was like, "I bet that would fit perfectly in my brake hole."
And voila, it does.

tonym 05-24-06 04:40 PM

dont suppose you have any spare that youd be willing to wrap up and post over to ireland for a tasty profit?

hyperRevue 05-24-06 04:42 PM

I don't, but do a google search for "speaker spikes" and you'll get many hits.
