thanks.. exactly. that thing sat in my room for about a week before i snapped and decided to build it up with quite literally anything that would fit on it.

obviously it's a frame that deserves (and will get) all the right parts eventually.. but it's pretty funny some of you guys are hating on parts that aren't exactly cheap (phil wood hubs & dura ace pista crankset?).. heh. don't worry, i'll post pics when that **** is rocking the polished NOS C-Record pista gruppo ;)

yeah, i think that bike looks great the way it is. but then again, my "aesthetic taste" isnt as "refined" as some :)

also interested in fixer's frame.

Actually it's an early 90's Performance branded Japanese mtb frame. I found the frame/fork NOS on Ebay a few years back, built it up as a full tour bike for a little while, and now decided to grind off all braze ons and the derailleur hanger and turn it into this....:)

OrgFarmCY 10-02-06 02:00 PM

I've been commuting on various forms of this bike for over a year now. It's a 1980 Raleigh Super Course, with a mix of a few nice components, a lot of the refinished original stuff, and some garbage I had lying around.

She'll be done as a fixed gear within the month though. Im switching all her components over to an Angus, repainting her and putting on a older shimano 600 group.

they're great for barspins

OrgFarmCY 10-02-06 02:44 PM

My brake line crapped out when i was switching handle bars. I've been riding brake-less for a week, and while I can do it, I absolutely hate it. Im putting on a new lever and a brake line tomorrow.

We're now running essentially identical bar setups!

I was surprised at how well the work. I can almost do a front wheel stand.

Totally, my Waterford (not fixed) also has couplers and I absolutely destroyed the paint in a few places this past weekend while traveling. For those considering couplers...watch the contact points between the spokes and hub axles if there are any! I now feel Chimbly's pain even after telling her the obvious about covering the tubes; **** doesn't work that easily!

Damn straight it does... and a backpack case to ride around in. I will never again have to choose between leaving my bike at home and lugging around a giant bike box. Best of all worlds.

Really? Mine came with a ****load of that velcro'd padding stuff, and I just go ape**** when I pack it up. The first time I traveled with it, I forgot to pad the chainring, and it scratched one of my wheels a bit. Since then I've just 3-4 plastic grocery bags to cover the chainring, and it's been gravy. My paint hasn't suffered in the least. But if you don't have the packing material I mentioned, you should call Waterford, S+S, or Co-motion right now (or go to their websites) and get some. It's indispensable.

12XU 10-02-06 09:26 PM

I definitely have the velcro strips all cut to length that cover nearly every section of the bike. My bike has gears and my spokes are bladed, so covering everything and avoiding the steak knife effect of the spokes is quite difficult. I found that the spokes managed to push the padding out of the way and scrape a few places, and that the end of the axle jacked the **** out of the paint on my downtube and the neighboring decal when the plug fell out of the end of the axle. Also, the phrase I had painted on the non-drive chainstay partially rubbed off onto the velcro padding due to its not being under the clearcoat. So far, I've been very unimpressed with the ability of the velcro stuff to protect anything...

I have seen people advising a gigantic piece of padded tubing right where the cassette hits the downtube in the box. Although that doesn't matter for anyone with a track bike...
