The Elvish has been built up again for the rain and cold weather.

Classy.

Mitch... I loved the bike how it was, but now I am obsessed.

So good.

Let us know how those work out for you. I would worry that the brake pads would rotate up into the wheels.

Ill Mitch 10-03-06 01:09 PM

so far they're still staying in place, we'll see in the long run.

Thanks for the comments :)

ss mtb. old GT steel frame, bunch of random crap from my back yard. needs a new seat/post, rear brakes and a lever, but its nice for cruising around. Its currently my loaner for friends.

its kinda like a big kid BMX

Surly Steamroller:

Surly Steamroller frame and wheelset picked up used on Ebay. Surly hubs, cog, chain tensioners. Sugino cranks. Fatty 35mm Panaracer T-serv tires. Nitto Moustache bars with shellaced tape (originally yellow cork tape). Brooks honey B.17 champion special saddle. Arkle saddle bag (probably swapping this out soon for something classier, maybe a Brooks Challenge Bag).

LBS (Greenlees, Knoxville) hooked up the front brake. Both levers actuate the front brake, allowing me to grab brake and signal, no matter which hand.

DoshKel 10-03-06 10:13 PM

Yum. That bar tape must be really comfy.

Is that part of a BMX Gyro? If so, that is an awesomely creative use of it to achieve the dual brake setup.

Problem Solvers cable joiner.

Does no one realize that this is probably the easiest/most efficient/cheapest way to do that?

That looks like it would work better with one handle working 2 brakes, but maybe i'm not seeing quite how it works. Who makes it?

look at it the opposite way....

trons 10-04-06 11:33 PM

the side with two cables leads to the two levers, the other cable goes to the brake

zip22 10-05-06 12:14 AM

wouldn't that design not be as effective when you only pull one brake?

either way, signals are always done with the left hand. if signals are what you're worried about, you only need one brake lever. unless you were talking about other sorts of signals. then i could understand sometimes using the other hand, or even both.

Seconded. By the looks of it, if you pull one lever, that beam thingy turns sideways and hardly pulls on the single cable at alll.

My thoughts exactly.

heroblast 10-05-06 01:33 AM

it's made by Primo. it's a bmx thing (which i don't even think they make any longer)...i've used one...it does in fact operate and suck as loforkas says.

I want to see a closeup of the track ends of that Tommasini. But then I want so many things...

Our city's "share the road" pamplet actually encourages cyclists to use both hands/arms in signaling turns, rather than the left hand only signals taught in many places. Not to mention other friendly gestures to motorists. :)

The problem solver cable joiner works great. LBS warned against grabbing both levers at the same time, as this may strip out the cables from the housing.

explody pup 10-05-06 08:29 AM

Gorgeous bike, KnoxBreezer. That's more or less exactly what I wanted to do with my build down to the Problem Solvers joiner (only exception being aero brake levers rather than the bar-ends). Ended up going a completely different route due to an anemic bike budget.

How do you like the moustache bars? How does it change your riding compared to drops or bullhorns?
