That restoration is quite impressive. I always wonder, though, why spend the time and money to restore a messed up old frame like that, when you can get something nicer without all the work?

I wonder the same thing, but still pretty cool to look at.

Haven't updated in weeks.

Here's today's project: A bicycle for my lady - Maruishi conversion with orange Deep V's. Better components to come once rattle-can paint has dried.

My Fetish in its current state:

Also in the background is my '73 Paramount roadie awaiting fresh paint and truer wheels.

And here's another project: Mid '80's Nishiki conversion, once wrecked in the front, modified for grocery/laundry use with 3-speed bars and rear rack. Great utility bike..

Because the work is 90% of the fun. When you have a bike messed up like that, and then perfected into a beautiful machine... it is like having a baby. Or something like that :o.

jesus christ that is a slack head angle.
what kind of frame is it...looks kinda like mine.

br995 10-08-06 03:43 PM

I have no idea what the frame is. Previous owner claims it's Japanese, but that's as far as ouw knowledge goes. It came with campy rims, but I couldn't get the lock ring off the rear so I threw on one I had. The fork is obviously colnago, the Pave seat is ****ing awful, chopped bars, reload pad, and...uh... I don't know what the crank is. Some weird company he said a friend suggested that makes really stiff cranks, and he thinks the BB is dura ace. I've been riding too much to pay attention to what it has. For some reason I want to say the pedals have 'Shimano 105' stamped on them, but is that even possible?

Anyway, for under $200 it was a great deal on a decent bike that I can use when it's crappy out.

slack head angle and low rake is where it's at! comfortable for longer rides but still has tight handling

you could break through that thing just by looking at it crossly.

He is in Finland, people would stop the thief and kindly ask him what he was doing or tackle him if he had already sawn through the lock.

Yeah, I've gone through one just like it with a normal wire-cutter. Wouldn't leave it for more than 10 minutes like that, even in my tiny, tiny town.

almost, and since noone, not even the bike-shops seem to know hov a fixed-gear bicycle works I'm counting on finging whoever takes it laying on the ground in blood and tears a few hundred meters away ;-)

Remove the brake and they won't make it that far

That is not at all how it works. slack head angle + low rake = super stable or unresponsive handling(depending on how you look at it). Sometimes a tank is nice but usually a tank made with slack head angle OR low rake not a super tank that combines the two.
