I found it to ride fine, but I liked the Biachi Pista a bit better. The Pista isn't as good a bargain here though. As for the Fuji, the stock tires (basic Kendas) didn't last long and the stock pedals are big and aggressive like mtn pedals, but I didn't mind them too much. The stock seat is/was super cushy. I think mine is last year's model.

You said you were doing research for your school...and also that you had a Fuji Track.
I sold a Fuji track to a guy who was doing school research. Was it you?

I'm gonna use it pretty much stock (with a front brake though), well maybe I'll swap the bars and put a fender on the back, but that's it, I want a cheap good ride. And about the stock gear ratio (48/16), is it too tough?

so far its been great. the pictures were taken right after the bike's first good cleaning so you can't really see all the grime i've been putting on it. :D

nothing really to worry about, the bike has been nothing but good news. things you might consider:

1. fender clearances are really tight -- so use a seat post fender if you can. also, there are no eyelets.
2. stock bar tape sucks -- replace that **** immediately
3. triple check the rear lockring -- i asked the salesman twice if it was on right and he said yes, my hub was completely stripped in a week. thankfully the shop replaced my whole rear wheel for free. i haven't had any problems since.
4. 48x16 is quite steep, for me anyway -- it really slowed me down at my first alleycat and tends to make getting up off a stop when there is a slight incline pretty difficult. i've got a surly 17t in the mail as we speak and i'll probably be getting a new FSA chainring if the new cog isn't enough.
5. stock tires suck, but thats typical -- i'm still learning to perfect my skids so i really only practice on slick, recently paved asphalt and the tires have held up okay. eventually i'll have to get gatorskins in back and something more colorful up front.

About tires, you say they don't last long. Do you skid a lot? I'll put a brake, so I don't plan to skid. And what about stock bars? I think I'll better put something like Nitto RB-021.

My Bianchi Pista is a battleship grey beast that I left in Connecticut. Bought it March 2003 and I am pretty sure that is the model year too. The Japanese one is a little different and about 70,000 I think? For tires, I wasn't skidding much, but they are pretty soft and wore down comparatively quick. Skidding would exacerbate it. I received the bike with flopped and chopped stock bars, but since played around with some steel and some aluminum Nitto's depending on my mood. Steel looks rad but I really felt the weight change.

Haha---yep that is me. When I saw your location I figured that might be you too :)
The Fuji has served me well. Thanks for passing it along. The brake and lever came over to the new rig too.

I see, thanks. I plan to put bullhorn bars and a seat post fender on it. What about the frame itself?

Frame-wise I haven't had any problems. Then again, I haven't had many opportunities to ride many other bikes to compare. I've fooled around with the Pista, One Way, and GF Triton at work a bit and they all feel pretty similar -- it certainly doesn't not inspire confidence.

One thing I have begun to notice is the welding work. Not bad as some bikes I've sold but not as good as others. It's just solid without looking amateur, it's a lot better looking than other bikes in the price range, maybe even the Pista.

Thanks, I think it might be not a bad frame after all. Even for such low price.

You need some bullhorns. That's why god created them - for profile T2+s Your light is also mounted too low :)

Works perfectly.

And regarding the hollowpin chains. I use a KMC X10SL for road and I have 14000km on it. It hasn't broken, despite many hard uphill sprints. You have a smaller chance of breaking a chain on mtb than road, road than fixie. BMX is in there somewhere.

these brake adapters/holders are great. very clever from you.

have to say that i broke a chain (the only one ever broke) on a 15miles old bike... it was a kmc. it brake when i was going from the side of the road to cross it. i almost hit my face on the bar, as well as my jewels... but i think that i'm a bit to agressive with my bikes. the bb is going on my mountain bike and i've already broke one on that bike 3 years ago. hope my ss will hold on!!

really is that too low though? mines mounted there as well.

Cynikal 07-02-07 11:05 AM

I would have it on the seat post just to increase side visibility.

i think he mentioned it because the brake obstructs it.

The light seems to be centred on the seat tube so sidepull part of the brake shouldn't really be in the way too bad. Perhaps the reflection off the shiny brake make the light more effective?

kyle! 07-02-07 11:31 AM

i guess. still, it wouldn't hurt to shimmy it up a bit, no?

07 Madison

Here's my Madison... I've been messing with it since September, but I think I'm happy with it now. Electrical taped over the decals, not much is left stock, I'm sure the parts can be figured out. It's a blast to ride and I'm really pleased with it.

I like how the madison ended up.

I'll start my saga with this. Better pics coming soon.
