Didn't expect a bike with Stolen cranks and a Profile sprocket.

pretty flimsy. Making it out of aluminum is going to be crazy expensive but the alternative of 100 pounds of steel sounds worse.

eh then I will make a frame and fiber glass it I can do most if not all of it myself

I actually painted the bike to match the cranks.

Looks like these.

Legalize it, those are Stolen bmx cranks.

bexley 10-05-07 10:15 AM

Why do I not see more BMX cranks?

They offer a few things that I thought fixed riders swoon over:
- easy to find 165mm cranklength
- different chainring designs, for must-have feeling of being unique (I gotta say that the gold chainring is pretty nice)
- sometimes a different look to the cranks
- good quality (well, a good range, at least)
- and finally, using something for something it wasn't meant for. 1,000 points here, I would think.

When you think you've seen it all...
I saw this at a swedish bike forum where a guy did a few small modifications to a broken Scott CR1 frame...

i've always assumed bmx cranks were way heavy - is this not true?

yes, they are really heavy and the Q factor is pretty wide so they ride a bit different.

just a question:
how to BMX chainwheels take to the back-and-forth pressure of riding fixed/resisting the pedals/skidding?
aren't they attached with a reverse threaded lockring? I thought that was the reason why the old FSA track cranks sucked. The spider attachment would strip out eventually.

Alex Steezeman 10-05-07 11:52 AM

Most bmx cranks have a bolt the goes through a hole in the sprocket to hold it on, the only ones that don't are the splined Tree sprockets. And I think bmx sprockets would work as far as pedal pressure goes because a lot of them are meant to hold up to being hit on ledges and rails.

c0urt 10-05-07 12:09 PM

i am rocking the same cranks i used to rock on my pedal cab and the media bike. granted they arent bling, but if they can haul this 900 pound monstrosity for 8 hours a day

http://stupidhurts.org/gallery/album...2/IMGP3208.jpg

then they will do just fine on my fixie

Got it head on. I am ridin breakless right now and its not a problem. They work well. Not very performance oriented but the bike is kinda "showy" anyway so I thought they would work. The only minor problem I have come across is that the bolt that holds the crank arm to the chainring gives a little bit of play but there is a grove in the chainring where you can throw a washer to fix that right up.

bexley 10-05-07 02:57 PM

Kilgore, it works very well. The yellow tires + that gold chainring = showy but tasteful.

sorsha6 10-05-07 04:39 PM

Kilgore -
That looks great! I actually bought a profile chainring but then inconveniently went broke and never bought the euro bb and cranks.
