I got sick of waiting for the rest of the parts for my road bike, so I put it together as a fixed conversion. I wanted to get a sense for how the frame handles. This is my first non-steel frame. It's quite different on the road. |
And here's the donor bike. An '87 Trek 7600 as equipped for the FM.24.07 race in Atlanta last month.

BIKES PEOPLE!
not frisbees |
Jesus, don't repost a pic if someone right above you already did. You know what, don't do it at all. It's useless most of the time and annoying.
" ultimate is ****ing sweet." Really? Okay, so don't repost that bike pic for the 8th time. |
freakin' ultimate playing hippies.

getting closer, got my bars taped up today got my cranks on, and got a few other small things done.
my wheels will be done and my tires will be in on wenesday. I can't wait. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2118/...bf56fec4_o.jpg running a 70x 107 bb and a 40 tooth ring. i can't go any larger any front. on the inside of the spider there is about 4-5 mm of frame clearance. I am curious to see what my chain line is going to be once my wheels are built, and I am hoping i can use the outer lip of my cranks. |

This is my first attempt at a conversion. I realize that my stem is pretty high, so I might buy a shorter one, but I might not. It's gonna be my snow ride so I might want the more upright position..
What do you guys think? I'm new to fixed riding, but I'm having a blast. I did all the work myself, except after destroying two cables I finally gave up and had the LBS hook up the brake. They also tightened my chain a little. http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/3679/img0921qe9.jpg |
madfiNch: I can't quite tell if you've got a TT-style barend brake or have one rigged on the flats, and you're probably going to hate this idea, but you could arguably drop your stem a little and flip the bars the other way for the winter (three speed style)... it would get you more upright and give a bit more leverage to deal with slipping around in the snow.
now I'll just sitback and wait for the ridicule to pour in! :D [edit]mmm, except if it is a barend brakelever you'll run into problems with brakecable length... drats! |

can't wait for next year, when "fixies" become faux pas and everyone starts selling their gear to jump on the next train.
