okay dont be mad at me about components... i still need:
campy cranks and chainring
campy 27.2 seat post (prefer non-aero but either will work)
mustache/pominade bars
brown cloth tape...

not sure if i like the tires....

beforeimpact 12-17-07 08:44 PM

Trade you a 27.2 non-aero campy seatpost for those tires...

jacobpriest 12-17-07 08:45 PM

beforeimpact 12-17-07 08:47 PM

reminds me of a certain old grand velo:

some brown cloth tape would look real nice though. or brooks leather tape.

I would beat Ryand's mother up for that bike.

What year is the frameset, what tubing, where did you get it etc

sniks 12-17-07 09:14 PM

trade the seat post for those tires!
and I will trade you some vintage fluted sugino cranks for those 75s

jacobpriest 12-17-07 09:38 PM

The frame set was built in the 70s for someone who worked at the factory, that's why there is no chrome, according to richard schwinn. i have no idea about the tubing, only that its heavy. i think paramounts were built with 531? maybe?

el twe 12-17-07 09:42 PM

Yep, 531. Schwinn eventually ventured into the world of Columbus steel, but I think that was in the 80s.

Suttree 12-17-07 10:42 PM

Cynikal 12-17-07 10:44 PM

This coming from a kid in Davis.:D

I heard somewhere that the "Man" was going to take it over and make thing right again.

Suttree 12-17-07 10:46 PM

more on that offline--

Cynikal 12-17-07 10:47 PM

Agreed

bward1028 12-17-07 10:52 PM

wtf kind of headset is that?

bonechilling 12-17-07 10:54 PM

Cane Creek. S2 or something, I'd guess.

Suttree 12-17-07 10:54 PM

cane creek s2, solid but not $$$olid

bward1028 12-17-07 11:07 PM

did you strip it or something, or can i just not see the logos?

Suttree 12-17-07 11:08 PM

the logos are in white paint which doesn't contrast with the
aluminum

(Now you've got me looking at it closely and my eyes are hurting trying to picture it as both straight and at an angle.)

Actually, it is chopped.

It was jammed under my bed for a month, and it bent. So I cut it off where it bent.

It's cool this way, but another couple inches would be better.

I have heard on many occasions Schwinn would do most whatever a customer wanted. I have never seen a Paramount without the chrome tipped fork and rear end. The tubing was always double butted 531 with Campagnolo dropouts front and rear. Is it drilled for brakes at all?

Surly Karate Monkey

I just picked up my Karate Monkey from my LBS today. I rode her a little and took a few photos before dark. Hope you like it, I sure do.

I got the frame for really cheap because the shop got it for really cheap because of the imperfect decals. You can see the one of "Karate Monkey" in this picture, but the "Fatties Fit Fine" is also screwed up, but covered by the chainstay guard.
It's my first 29er, giving me a pair of mountain bikes, the other a 2006 Fisher Cake 2 DLX.
Here are the specs of my build:
-Avid BB7 mechanical discs
-Shimano M475 Hubs laced with 2mm DT Swiss spokes to WTB Dual Duty 29er rims
-Panaracer Rampage 29x2.35" tires
-WTB Momentum headset
-Generic stem, bars and a Kalloy post off a Marin Nail Trail
-Shimano Deore gear ready crankset with a 32t ring, 20t Surly cog in back
-WTB Speed V saddle, will be replaced by a Brooks Team Professional
-Lizard Skins chainstay guard. This is to cover up the sticker on the frame that's screwed up.
-For now old Sakae road pedals that will be caged

Suttree 12-18-07 01:36 AM

looks fun to fishtail around on in the street or ride off a loading dock

bward1028 12-18-07 01:43 AM

fixed? badass
