Interesting seatpost on your Specialized. Nice headlight, too. What brand is that?
|
The headlight, which comes as a set with the rear red light and the generator, is Back Trails, maker of super-generic, probably low-quality bike stuff, available at my local Target. Since I built that bike on the cheap, I went for the cheapest light ($10), figuring I could replace it periodically and still be doing better than if I dropped $50 or more to begin with. But the thing's been going strong for at least six months, even though I leave it out in the rain. The only complicated thing at all was not even the fault of the light: since the frame is aluminum, I had to use some extra speaker wire to ground both the headlight and the taillight against the (steel) seatpost.

This is my first fixed gear. 1982 Austro-Daimler Inter10. About 60cm. Newley put together. It's great.

[/IMG] seriously, that's a sweet bike. my first ten-speed (a mercier) didn't have retained headset bearings either, and those are some small buggers indeed. |

Hey calculator, your bike is absolutely stunning! Are the paint and decals original?!?
|
Hey, Rattking, I see you decided on the glue-on method for the headbadge. Looks great!
|
Calculator, that is some sexy stuff right there.

I wish, it would mean I'd have them in my possession. But, in reality I bought the wheelset off of eBay and the dust caps were missing from the get-go. Searching around online hasn't turned up anything yet. |

Calculator.
Are these dustcaps you need to cover oiling holes in the shaft of the hub? If so, they would have been strips of leather or real rubber cut in sort of a T shape. Wrapped around with the T tucked through the slit. see if this comes through; ____ | | _______________| | | | | ____ | | | _______________ | | | |___| |
Oh. That really helps.

It's the covers that keep the world away from the bearings. The circular deals on either side of the hub. I actually went so far as to buy a vintage Campy Record low flange hub but the caps were too small. |
