further forays into the netherworld of obnoxious anodized components and eighties-revival; further separation between the "freestyler" 650c/trick riding crowd and the old-school-inspired riders; more interest in european track frames now that the keirin frame scene is way blown up; pista and road drops coming back into fashion, since we've already 'done' bullhorns and flats/risers; increased acceptability of things like bottle cages and frame pumps if you actually ride your FG more than a few miles; another powergrip debate sometime around mid spring when shants is recognized as the messiah.

I think they're more common in Japan because track drops are (or were) much cheaper over there. Americans were cutting cheap Schwinn bars to make the flop-and-chops, and the Japanese were chopping their version (which happen to be sought-after Nitto 123s).

My Prediction: In an effort to be absolute nonconformists, all fixie riders will dress the same. Until next year of course, when they will also dress the same - just with different stuff. Then, they will mock those who are wearing last year's nonconformist uniform - perhaps even calling them conformists.

1. putting wheels on frames that weren't designed for them, front and back.
Like 20in rims on a track frame and running 100mm cranks.
2. downhill forks on newer track frames.
3. graphics on disc wheels
4. like chase's opinion on bottle cages/pumps, but taken to a herse/singer/ant level.
just trying to think of dumb things for people to do, except number 4, which i think would be awesome.

Bikes: Coppi racer, Old school BMX, some random a fixed wheel convertion
Please no leave our track frames alown. They are expensive enough over here as it is with out more demand from the US.
I agree with the freestyle thing and the classic thing.
My next build is actually an old Basso road frame that I will be building audax style, two brakes e.t.c. Yes I am sad but no I am not old.

I'm too busy hoping some trends will disappear to think about new ones. And I agree: I'd love it if people would just ride more, work on/fix their own bicycles, and stop worrying so much about aesthetics. The tipping point has hopefully been reached in 2007 and things will slowly return to being about riding.
Also, I hope Mr. West is a better cyclist than a rapper/performer/MC since he is f*ckin' terrible. On a related musical note, and dealing with some good performers - I almost died last week when I asked my students (mostly college sophomores and juniors) if any of them listened to Public Enemy. We were talking about music. Out of 22 students, TWO had even heard of them. I don't understand how that is possible.
