Road bars vs Track bars

I have been puzzling over this for some time. I had my stock Bontrager ergo drops hanging on the wall for 2 years. Hated the look. Rode Deda Pista bars for a long time along with some risers.

Risers = comfy
Pista = numb city

So I decided to try the stock ergo bars and I immediately fell in love with them. I can stay in the drops for almost 20kms at a time before needing a position change. No numbness. The reach is short and I use a 110 stem with them. The Pista bars have a longer reach and I use a 90mm stem with them.

Surely it's a fit issues that I can't seem to pinpoint but at the same time the ergo section in the curl is awesome. Very comfy for me.

Anyone else drop the track look for comfort? If I feel I can sprint and pull better with the cheap ergos, why keep the Deda bars? I'd like to run them comfortably.

This thread is more track/road than some of you may be used to but I think the smart ones are usually in here.

If you love ergo drops, I suggest you try hoods.

Even better.

Hoods implies brakes and there aren't too many bikes with brakes allowed on the velodrome. Plus I don't like the hoods position.

Ah, BF you never cease to disappoint in disappointing.

I figured since you mentioned risers it wasn't exactly "track related". Track forums are over there ->>

This has nothing to do with risers of course. Those are my city bars.

And since when is track considered anything "comfortable"? Get a grip guys, just asking if you are running them on the street and the comfort levels you got with a stem change or otherwise.

So should we just call this the hipsters unite forum or what? Give something constructive or go post in the "What new band is making you hard these days?" thread.

There are just hoods available, without the levers. Not sure if they'd be legal on the track.

are they called dummy hoods? i actually might be interested in some. i like the hood hand position, and dont run brakes (well on this build im making that has 700c coaster brake wheelset)

i just got these for cheap for my build....i guess they are road bars....

so is the main different between track and road bars is that road have much more flat top section and less drop?

AFAIK, yes? I remember a guy posted a picture of him having one of those on his bike in the Post your SS/FG thread.

I ride dura ace road drops. They are more comfy and look good. A lot of people ride road drops on the track too!

For me it's the bend that has constant radius. I have really big hands and the roundness of the drop creates two big pressure points, where the flat section mid curve or ergo drops accommodates my hands. Resting my hands on the lower end of the curve where it flattens out, causing me to drop down even more makes my hands go numb and creates pain in my shoulder very fast.

My simple question which some seem to have glossed over is a shorter reach the answer or a shorter stem for best fit when going for a track bar that works for your fit? Not a roadie question, not a track question but using these bars on the street. In the real world. No drugs.

There is no problem with an adult conversation about this as opposed to the typical BF pissing contest. Let's keep it on topic.

Track bars vs road bars on the track all depends on length of the event you are in.
