Don't rush it, with anything the skills come with time.

Hahaha, I'll keep at it, thanks guys. Reeling in all the sqrls will have to wait I guess.

Today I
decided to replace my rear formula that is stripped with a miche hub. Anyone have a negative to doing that? |
Today, with the new school year making it's way around campus; I couldn't help but notice all of the showeeet phixiez locked up with cable locks which look like fragile enough that a simple tug would tear it apart. Students always learn the hard way.

Learned two things:
- I can now skid reliably. - Pedal strike SUCKS. Took my Peugeot UO-9 conversion out on its first shakedown. It's got a really supple, plush ride, it's very stable, and I pretty much nailed the fit. Need to swap out the 105 crankset for something a little shorter, and put a proper set of pedals on it (GR-9s spring to mind). Feels good man. |

First commute in since switching to fixed last night. Definitely some WTF moments. I noticed I (used to) coast a lot after a big sprint, my bike reminded me not do do that today. Learning how to slow down with my legs is weird, and not as easy as it looks. Still can't skid, although I think I did accidentally, because some ass with his bike trailer was double laning in a blind corner on the trail (I'm glad I kept my front brake on). All in all, not too bad.
|
Right on, man. You'll get it. Just remember you don't need to be pedaling your ass off all the time and learn how to regulate your speed. You can still "coast" by just letting your drivetrain do what it does but be careful not to get spinning faster than your legs will move. For this, a brake will be handy.
|
Got pissed for the 4th day that it won't stop raining and thus haven't had a good opportunity to ride my bike.
|
Will you melt if you ride in the rain?

Yeah, I tried to "train" myself for fixed while I was riding SS by trying hard not to coast, but I guess subconsciously I was still coasting more than I had thought. I don't think that front brake is ever coming off, even when I get the hang of all the different stopping methods. My commute in is relatively car free (few here and there) so it's a perfect time to try something new and get the hang of before the ride home.

No, I just have a perfectly good car and I really hate getting rained on. Most of my bike rides are for leisure, so it doesn't make sense to go get all wet for no real purpose. |
